The list: Independent bookstore

Here's the deal. I was thinking the other day (I'm on vacation, lots of time to think) about local independent bookstores, and I could only come up with one (Fig Garden Bookstore). This lead me start thinking about local record shops/thrift stores/bike stores, etc. Ultimately, I realized there's a lot of place I know nothing about, but would probably love (provided I had some quick knowledge of them). Making sense so far? What I'm proposing is a list. That simple. I'll put up the topic (in this case independent bookstores) and any one out there who knows of a place can help me fill in the blanks. Any one up to help?

I'll start with Fig Garden Bookstore. It's in the Fig Garden Village. They sell new books (in all genres) as well as some kids toys and home good knick-knacks type stuff. They have a good selection of local writers and do a good job of hosting book signings, etc.

There's Hart's on Van Ness between Olive and Belmont. Also, the other book store known only to me as That Other Book Store That's Never Open on Olive across from the Tower.

Independent Bookstores

And if folks are really wanting to support local, Fig Garden Bookstore can order any book you want. It typically arrives in two business days.

The Book Barn in downtown Clovis is mostly used books, but they do carry some new.

If you want to branch out a bit, there's Cole's Books & Bagels in Madera, Willow Bridge Books in Oakhurst, and Russo's in Bakersfield.

If used bookstores count

If used bookstores count then try out the Friends of the Library bookstore located on the SW corner of Kings Canyon & Clovis. Next to the branch library. They are only open on Thursdays for limited hours and I think on the first 2 Saturdays of the month. Again, check their website for details. Run by a friendly staff of volunteers, they also take donations so its a great place to get rid of your old books and support a good cause.

Whoops, forgot to sign in, that was me. Being Famous' podcast partner, I'm using my ultra big authority and saying it's good to post used book stores.
