This week's, The List is inspired by Megan Zupancic, who spent the better part of two months tracking down every thrift store in Fresno. She didn't include consignment/vintage/junk shops.
So, let's put together a list of every thrift/consignment/vintage/junk/crazy-crap-you've-never-seen-before store we can think of.
I'll include:
* Grandpa's Place in Farmersville. This place is not in Fresno, but worth the drive. It's the kind of place you can get lost in. Quite literally. But they buy (and sell) in bulk and have new stuff ALL THE TIME. Lots of old records and comics.
* Vintage Curiosities. On Echo Avenue, down the road from Echo Street Cafe. On the same block. I have yet to go in, but I pass it all the time and it looks like there is TONS of crazy stuff in there.

That exactly what I thought
About Grandpa's Place as I was wandering around. I almost said that exact thing in my post, but didn't want to confuse people.
THRIFT-Y
Vintage Curiosities is a MUST see...this place is fantastic! I bought a very life-like and ghostly plaster hand which I LOVE. I think there's still some plaster body parts and faces in a box in the back room if you are so inclined.
Grandpa's Place is what YN! used to be when Yoshi called it the Garage Sale -- a place for digging up buried treasures...also fantastic!
YoshiNow!
OK, let me be the first to state the obvious:
Yoshi Now!-----
---yes, as many Fresnofamous.com users know, Yoshi Now! and FResnoFamous practically grew up together, went to the same kindergarten, and graduated from the same high school. They are almost two items from the same matching outfit.--which is a compliment, I believe, to both sides of the equation.
YoshiNow has that perfect balance of : "Dang, I haven't seen on of these in years", Items That I Need and Have a Use For and Items I Have Spent Money On Cuz I Couldn't Help Myself Even If They Are Just Hanging Out in My Garage For Now.
Yeah.
I so want to get a copy of that 'zine.
That'll be a Fresno history icon in just a coupla years;I can feel it.
I think there's two antique/curiosity shops across from Fresno High?
The one on the corner I ducked into one hot summer morning. The only disappointment was finding a Who CD inside of a Wilco CD box.
(not that I don't LOVE The Who, but I think I had that one, and didn't have the Wilco one.)
BUT on the Un-Disappointment side, it seemed to have lots of other cool stuff that I just didn't have the presence of mind to check out
at the moment. (I mentioned the heat?)
