Personally, I prefer South Tower...

I’m sure you’ve heard about the term “SoTow” being coined as the new name for the area in and around the Fultonia development on Fulton Street. SoTow is to be used as a short reference for “South of Tower”. I’m not quite sure I agree with the title, at least not yet.

Today, I look at the aforementioned area as South Tower, not South of the Tower District, but just a southern extension to Central Tower (on Olive Ave). The meaning of the name SoTow seems to provide a disconnect for Tower residents around the Fultonia, that I don’t think is warranted.

The intention is to provide the neighborhood with it’s own identity and takes it’s cues from places such as SoMa in San Francisco (South of Market) and SoHo (South of Houston) in New York City. While a novel idea, I think it’d be better served at providing an individual connection to the Tower District as the area around the Fultonia isn’t very big, not high-density nor is it a rising industrial area. If the neighborhood were larger or even to remain it's current size, with several multi-level buildings and more room for commercial development, I could see wanting to designate it as it’s own district.

Currently, this area is a part of the Tower District and deserves the established connection it has. I just feel that as things are, the connection to the central Tower District should and could be retained if SoTow were to mean South Tower, rather than South of Tower.

SODOT

if that is SOTOW then I guess that around south of downtown near Chris Sorensen studio is SODOT as in South of Downtown.

but really I call the area around Chris's Studio ... Railroad Ave and Van Ness aka the Welcome to Fresno sign.

and that area North of Downtown is NODOT... or we can just call it Belmont and Fulton.

it's all SOSHAW

Denver's Lower Downtown

Denver's Lower Downtown neighborhood is called LoDo (pronounced Low-Doe). Maybe we could call the area between Olive, Divisadero, Blackstone and Palm LoTow?
