Pet owners be responsible

This morning,Fresno had two dog attacks. A total of 4 dogs were involved. The dogs were pit bulls or pit bull mixes.

Pet owners need to be responsible. I don't care what breed of dog you have, you need to provide proper care. That includes keeping your dog under control at all times.
There are leash laws for a reason.
If you can't provide proper care and exercise for the animal, don't get the animal. It's not fair to them.

Pit bulls have a bad reputation for a reason. They are very powerful dogs, that require proper training and exercise. It just seems like a lot of the people that own these dogs, don't provide proper care or training.

A few months ago, I was at Hope Animal Foundation. Five people came in there with pit bulls. 4 of the 5 had no business having these animals. The dogs were agressive towards other dogs and even a small child. This was while waiting in the lobby area.
I honestly was shocked the one dog didn't attack the child.

A couple days ago, while walking with my dogs in my neighborhood, I passed a man going door to door putting fliers out. He had a German shepard unleashed with him. The dog was not under his control. It was running across the street and basically doing what it wanted. This is not acceptable!
Just because your dog doesn't bite you, doesn't mean it won't attack a someone else or another dog or cat in the neighborhood.
People need to start being more responsible!

Amazes me

It is amazing to me, at how many unleashed dogs I encounter while walking my own dogs. Everyday, the same man has his dog unleashed in his drive-way. Everyday when I walk past, the dog starts going nuts. The man or his son, scramble trying to catch the dog, before he chases after me. There is no excuse for this. He knows people walk by and the dog reacts the same way each time.

If I am working in my front yard, and I decide to take one of my dogs with me, I put my dog on a chain, so she can't leave the yard. How difficult is it to do that, when you have the dog out front with you? Not to hard at all.

If you want to allow your dog to run off leash, then go to one of the several off leash dog parks in the area.

I quit going to the dog parks after my last experience there. The park was crowded and a man entered the park with a very aggressive Pit bull. He left the dog on a leash and walked around the park. He could barely keep the dog under control while it was on the leash. He even stated "He likes to fight". The jerk released the dog, and it immediately starting fighting with another dog in the park. We left and haven't went back.

This morning when walking, I took a different route then normal. I was shocked at all the piles of dog doo that people didn't clean up. In a stretch of sidewalk maybe 1/4 mile long, I counted 35 piles of crap. It was enough to make me sick. If you can't clean up your dogs crap, then don't walk it in public areas. Is it really that difficult to carry a few bags with you? Cleaning up dog poo is not exactly my idea of a good time, but I am responsible for cleaning up my dogs messes.

If you can't take the time to provide proper care, then don't get the animal. Proper care includes provide food, water, shelter, vet care, exercise, using a leash and cleaning up their poo.

I was shocked to find out

I was shocked to find out that some people actually enjoy it when their dog bites, mauls or even kills someone.

Yes

Me and my fiancee just got a pit bull as our first dog together and he's the nicest, most gentle dog either of us have encountered. A friend needed to get rid of him and didn't want him to go to an unfamiliar home that might not take good care of him.

That being said, we are being so careful with him because many people are very afraid of these dogs, and anything with jaws like that is potentially dangerous.

It sucks to see stories like this in the news, further frightening people about these normally wonderful animals. They're still just dogs but can be more trouble than most if neglected.

Please don't trust your dogs not to fight other dogs, and don't leave your dogs unleashed in public! The freedom is fun but not worth the risks! No matter what you can control, you can't control unfamiliar stray dogs, and this is reason enough to be extra careful.
