Went to The Red Door up at Fort Washington Saturday night to try it out. While the food itself was good, the service was terrible. The waitress kept trying to "upsell" us (special fried rice instead of pork fried rice, etc). Then she tells us they have no fried rice. What kind of Chinese restaurant runs out of fried rice? So we cancelled it and ordered steamed rice. For some odd reason, that caused her to put in only half our order. When the second main dish didn't come out, she argued with us that we didn't order it. But we did. Once she took the time to look at the order, she realized she was wrong. Then when that food finally came out, we were told they did have fried rice. Too late. Water wasn't replenished....service was outright disappointing. Unless someone tells me it might have been an off-night, we're not going back.
Coupons
Food was okay, but they don't like to honor coupons that they offer. Manager asked us to "come back soon" when we were leaving. Seriously doubt that we will (and we only live a couple of blocks away from the restaurant!)
My honey and I went there
My honey and I went there and loved the food and had great service. We had a waiter though I think. We really liked the atmosphere. Being from a big city I'm used to good Chinese food and have had a hard time finding it. I was excited about this place because this food was decent (not outstanding but good) and at a great price. I'd really suggest going at least once.
Same here
I went to the Red Door once, some months back, and my experience was just as bad as the rest. Seems they're consistent.
They have good food, but it's definitely not worth the trouble. I've had better. They have terrible service and the house chardonnay (whatever the brand) is boring.
Also, they're music was okay, but for some reason, someone went to mess with the settings and it just started BLASTING through the restaurant, disturbing everyone. It was bad.
Overall, I see they have problems on a regular basis and I will not return. There's another restaurant close by that seems to be doing much better. I'll go there.

My husband and I went there
My husband and I went there for dinner and had a similar experience to the first commenter. The food was decent, but the service sucked. The waitress took FOREVER to even acknowledge us. When she finally did, we ordered our food and a bottle of wine. She eventually brought out the wine w/a couple of dirty glasses and proceeded to pour the wine into them. I stopped her and pointed it out, so she took the glasses away, along with the portion of the wine we paid for that was in the dirty glass. Later she came back to take our order. (We had already placed it) Confused by the fact that we no longer had menus, she handed us new ones. We pointed out that we had ordered several minutes ago. She found our order in her book, pretended to remember, and then ridiculously claimed that she had already put it in to the kitchen. We waited as tables who came in after us received their food. I finally went and talked to the manager who comped the wine and some of the food. That was enough to keep me from leaving, but not enough to make me ever want to go back.
Credit card fiasco
We went there when it first opened, and the food was OK, nothing special. I don't like Chinese restaurants that charge extra for regular steamed rice - it should be included with the meal - period. When we were done, I gave them my credit / debit card. The waiter came back and told me it was declined! Believe me, there was plenty of funds to cover the bill. I told them to try it again, and he came back again, annoyed. Finally my wife paid with cash. Embarrassing, of course, and without cause. When we left I went to the ATM to verify, and there was nothing wrong with the account. I called the bank the next day, who told me that the restaurant put the charge through on the card anyway, 3 times!
I called the restaurant, and they told me they were having trouble with their credit card processing, but they would charge back the amount that day.
They did, but what a needless headache! And what if those charges caused me to rack up overdrafts?
Ugh - stay clear of this place.... they offered us coupons to come back but we never did. No thanks!
Don't order the soup
I went to The Red Door with friends. There were 5 of us. We ordered soup, like people tend to do at every Chinese restaurant in the nation. They brought us out 5 gigantic bowls of soup, not family style to share. They wanted to seriously charge us $25 for soup. $5 a pop. Come on. The waitress argued with us until we had to call over a manager. The rest of the food was great... but wow. Come on.
