I just recently attended the Re:fuse event in downtown and had a blast there. Then I got to thinking... What if our downtown was always like this? Walking around from venue to different venue, listening to different types of music, and generally just enjoying myself made me feel like I was in another city.
Honestly, I just went to get some extra credit for a class that I'm in (I am one of those sheltered northsiders that don't really venture out south of Shaw). But I'm glad I came out of my little bubble. There were a good amount of people roaming the streets, and I even ended up walking from Tokyo Garden to the spiral parking garage around 11:30pm. Well, with a little help of some liquid courage.
I really hope this is the direction our downtown is going and I plan to bring more and more people out to the events out there. Hopefully in the future this is a scenario in downtown that everyone is used to and it is just a regular night out in downtown.
Can't cycle???
I frequently ride my bike on the trail system we have on "the north." Can get from old town Clovis, to Woodward Park safely and easily. I think it runs where the old rail lines used to be.
Us against THEM
"damn those north of shaw people are learning of our wonderful downtown and the tower"
This comment is as equally detrimental to a thriving Downtown as this:
"Downtown...I never go Downtown...it's scary"
The Great Shaw Divide works both ways.
north of shaw gated prisons and dead-end streets
damn those north of shaw people are learning of our wonderful downtown and the tower. it's funny cause i try never to go north of shaw well i would not do that on a cycle because I don't feel safe since you can't take side streets north of shaw because the residential planers impressed those neighborhoods in to dead-ends (cul-de-sac) and gated prisons unlike the freedom us south of shawers get.
this is good
I remember going to the Mabuhay Gardens in San Francisco to see punk bands play in the early 80's. On just about any night of the week there were several clubs doing punk, new wave and rockabilly shows. It was like a Disneyland of live music. So much to see and so much to learn all within walking distance or a short drive. Fusefest has a similar feel.
