I don't know about you guys, but I'm not really a Riverpark "all the restuarants are the same with a diff. name" type of guy...give me a good taco full of greasy meat with a little roasted salsa, cilantro, lime..and a corona
EL RANCHITO on Fruit and Shields has taken the crown away from Chris' Meat Market(April's now and has fallen off..a bit) and Don Pepe (the one on first and mckenzie). Last night I ordered an Asada Taco.....WOW.....asada can be dry, not here...tacos can be small..not here...The meat was juicy and had a flavor that hit me like a tyson pre-holyfield punch. I can't talk about the other items on the menu..and i won't. A Carne Asada Taco is the holy grail, and this place maybe the best.

Guadalajara Carne Asada Tacos
I thought I'd found the holy grail at the sadly now closed, Al Ricos (used to be by the Fresno Novelty Shop under the freeway overpass)...but I was wrong. So wrong. Tonight I went to Guadalajara (which I'd been to before, but not for many years - my parents used to take my sister's and I to their other location, we just focused on the creepy decor of velvet paintings that seemed to stare at you, but I digress...)So I went to Guadalajara tonight and HOLY SHIZZZ! The back of their menu stated they had been awarded "Best Carne Asada Taco by Fresno Bee", so I ordered them. They were RIGHT! I usually never order carne asada tacos, because I usually get a lifeless, flavorless, chewy steak that tries to disguise itself as carne asada. But not here. I mean, I shouldn't judge because I don't usually order carne asada tacos at most places....but here they were magical. The meat melts in your mouth, it must have been slow cooked. Also I ordered them soft (the only way). I love a simple taco that ends up being magical. Steamed corn tortillas, carne asada, diced onion and cilantro. Simple. Beautiful. Oh and if you want flour, they make their flour tortillas there, from scratch.
Here's my shameless plug- my blog, I have a simple, magical recipe for salsa there too. But Guadalajara's was pretty damn good too.

Taco truck tacos
I like to go to the taco truck out by 99 and Central I believe. I dont even know the streets to get there but I get there. Its right in front of Pick-A-Part. Not to be confused with the taco truck on Golden State and Jensen. They have a chain too "La Acapulqueña"
Jimboys Tacos ? Comoe on, its like going to taco bell for tacos de virria.
more taco talk ...
@El_Alacran: The Selma one is parked right outside the flea market. It's open even when the flea market isn't. It's right off the 99, (Mtn. View exit, I believe), over the overpass, on southeast side.
About Chris/April:
For one, the salsa is different. Second, the meat doesn't seem as wonderful anymore. Some you'd get some grizzled or fatty meat there, but it seems like it's happening more now.
For me, Chris/April and La Elegante are the same distance, so if I'm going when La Elegante is open, I'm usually going there nowadays.
About Tacos TJ:
I go to the Ventura one. If you go when it's not a rush (like noon or late at night) you can homemade tortillas, if you ask.
@bitwit: Actually, I need more said about Jimboy's -- from everything I've heard about that place it doesn't seem like a place you'd find a good carne asada taco. Do tell what's good about it, please.
taco grande
I'm partial to Taco Grande and though I'm not a particularly big fan of Clovis, I do believe that location is better.
April/Chris in decline?
That's a pretty serious statement...makes this Fruit/Shields place sound like it merits five or six visits over the coming week. Gotta go back to Chris to compare, too.
What is it about Chris Meats that's gone wrong lately?
Re: where's tacos tijuana?
There's one on Ventura and another on Belmont. Both are at or near Cedar. Good carne asada.
Truck or stall at Selma Swap Meet?
I read your near-epic piece some time ago on this, and I thought the life-changing taco at the Selma S.M. was in one of the stalls there. It's a truck? Does it have a name or anything identifying on the side of it?
where's tacos tijuana?
Where's Tacos Tijuana located?
my plug: ...oh, I've already done one.
Jimboy's Tacos. 'Nuff said.
Jimboy's Tacos.
'Nuff said.
There's another Guadalajara
Out on the South end of 99 at like Central and Chestnut. I usually go there because it's bigger and the Weber one tends to get pretty crowded.
I like Mariscos
Las Adas
The trucks on the corner with the awnings over by the airport.
That the Guadalajara over off Weber? Dig that place man
Chris and Tacos TJ for tacos
La Biriaria for Biria
Diablo
La Elegante
is definately the best for carne asada. but tacos tijuana have pretty damn good shrimp tacos!
my top 5
1. Guadalajara (Patrick, you been there?)
2. La Elegante
3. Chris'
4. Selma Flea Market taco truck
5. Tacos Tijuana
My plug: fresnobeehive.com
my favorite carne asada taco...
There's a place in Kingsburg called "Los Pepe's" right there on Draper ("Main") Street----that's what I order every time I go there!
[alright Patrick! here's my own shameless self-promotion....Tokyo Garden...this saturday night(19th)!]
I hope to get out and see you on the 2nd...school's still out! (yeah!)
