1.) Will North Fresno Get the downtown treatment?
Mike Oz wonders what will happen to the fancy-ass Gottschalks building now that the company is being liquidated. Let's follow the lead of downtown and leave it empty for a few 40 years or so.
2.) The media has spies everywhere.
Note to Elaine Bernard: If you are under house arrest for pleading no contest to grand theft and tax evasion, and you happen to be caught by a photgrapher shmoozing it up at a gala event, you might want to at least give a fake name.
3.) Monsters take over Selland Arena.
I'm waiting to hear The Fresnan's take on this, cause I know he was all about the Falcons. But Fresno has a NEW hockey team, The Monsters.
From the Monster's press:
The Monsters season will start in September and they will be playing their home games at Selland Arena. Selland Arena has spent over $8 million in renovations within the last year.
The Fresno Monsters will be playing in the Western States Hockey League which is junior hockey system and will feature players between the ages of 17 and 20. The Fresno Monsters are a locally owned and operated organization. The Monsters are made up of an experienced management team with extensive hockey experience from playing, to coaching a team, and league management. “This is what it’s all about for this team, it’s about local involvement, local investment, and local accountability,” said Blong Xiong, city council member.

Discount Swap Mall
the Gottschalks building at Riverpark can be used as a 'Discount Swap Mall' just like the original Gottschalks downtown location on the Fulton Mall is being used as.

I was thinking pretty much the same thing today about how it's kinda poetic justice that this big box store building will be vacant in River Park.
And, yeah, I'm lagging in talking about the new hockey team. People that just like watching hockey will love it because it's kids fighting to get noticed by the NHL. The middle of the road fan probably doesn't care that it's no longer an ECHL team... so I guess, it's great. Interested to see how it turns out.

I feel bad for all the
I feel bad for all the people now out of jobs with the closure of Gottschalks.
I hope that their building will get a new tenant, but with times being tough already, you might be right, it might be another 40 years before something can move into the place.
It's great news that Fresno now has Hockey again. It should help bring a few people downtown on game nights anyways.
Elaine Bernard should fry. I noticed the picture in the magazine over the weekend and wondered why she was at an event when before Christmas the Judge said no events for you. She must feel as though she is above the law. She got a slap on the hand for stealing from abused kids. The kids are the real victims here and justice was not served. Bernard got off way to easy and I hope the book is now thrown at her.
