Things I did this weekend:
* Acted/played guitar/sang/no dancing in the final performance of our Rogue show. Ten minutes to show time and the place was sold out. We had to turn people away, including Sam, who was in our show last year and drove all the way from SF to see us. Sorry Sam.
Overall, the show was a success, probably better than either Will or I could have expected and seemed to get a very positive response. There is talk of doing it for Rogue Year Round, but that's just talk and I haven't heard that from anyone official and I probably shouldn't have said anything, but I just did, so ...
* Ran the 10k Blossom Trail Run in Sanger. That's six-point-something miles. I finished in just under and hour, which is good, right, for someone who doesn't really run and hasn't really trained? There were some serious runners there, which was interesting to see. Also, saw some friends and neighbors, though once the race started they passed me and I didn't see them again until the finish line. I want a T-shirt that says, "I ran the Blossom Trail run and all I got were sore legs."
* Saw Travis Sheridan's "Bipolarity of Life." This was a great show. Travis is a natural storyteller and knows how to interact with audiences. Knowing what I did about the show, I'm not sure the two act thing worked exactly like he wanted, but it didn't really matter to the overall theme/mood. I'm excited to see what, if anything, he does next year.
* Attended the Rogue After Party. Will and Blake did some brake dancing (sorry, no pictures) to the Trey Tosh band. I remember doing a story of Trey back in the day. He had to be 14 or 15 at the time and he was playing at Porky's all sorts, and had this Jimi Hendix and Stevie Ray Vaughn shtick. He had this great story about how he started playing guitar because some girl he liked broke his heart and started "going out" with his friend. He carried her picture inside of the hat he always wore as a reminder. I bet she's kicking herself now, huh Trey?
* Saw "Watchmen," which I liked very much. If you want to see a comic-book movie (like Spider Man, X-Men, The Dark Knight), this ain't it. This is a "graphic novel" movie. Which means, it's a little darker than your run-of-the-mill fare (no happy endings), there's a little more back story, lots of sub plots. Oh, and a giant blue penis, if you're into that.
Dancing Madness
Especially since there's no photographic evidence, I've gotta say, Will and I were
really magnificent at break dancing. We're sincerely thinking of entering some national competitions, gettings sponsors and becoming very very rich.
