Who knows a great place to find a dog

Is there a place in town that just has THE BEST Hot Dogs? (talkin with sour kraut kind of delicious kind of beefy kind of fresh kind of filling kind of juicy kind of hot dog) Am I relegated to have to research and make my own dog Alton Brown style?

Hebrew National does make the larger 1/4 lb beef frank. It is comparable in size to the dogs at Costco and Sam's.
The regular sized dogs are a bit skinny but they do come in 3 sizes I believe. The regular ones, jumbo, and 1/4 lb.
Savemart carries all 3 sizes I believe.
Was able to find
the Hebrew National and Nathans at Vons.
Hebrew National was a skinnier dog, but it packed more beefy flavor.
Also got some called bangers. Made from pork, kind of a bland sausage. Not bad, but not something to go outta your way for.
Nothing against those dogs, but I kept getting a feeling of filling, as in additives. I want supm fresh made from a meat market....
Might just have to try my own hand at this.....

That sounds good
and for the immediate future, like tomorrow sometime, we're gonna try the Hebrew National. But I have a feeling something along the lines of these will be on order soon...
Lobels Hot Dogs
Schaller Weber Fanks
or....
Make Your Own Hot Dogs
Along with some of this....
Franks Kraut
or..
Make Your Own Kraut
That's what I'm talkin bout...

that is...
the second person to say that today. My friend at work said that Hebrew National were really good.
I guess I'll have to give them a try.

Hebrew National. All beef hot dogs are the way to go.
How bout we
get a list going for the best hot dogs to buy to make your own. Right now I'm thinkin, buy the kraut and dogs and DIY it for a bit.
That's it, I'm researching it now,,,,,,

Oh, man, I just about forgot about eating hot dogs with a corn tortilla as a kid hahaaa - dang, those were good - better was the "hot dog rolled in a corn tortilla held with a toothpick" and fried version, but the charred dog is pretty darn good too - I'm giggling at the name tacodog, though - NEVER would have thought to call them that hahahaaa
oh, hope you guys find that hot dog, Leo.
Not too similar
try to merry that fresh deep fried corn tortilla with good hot dog flavor in your imagination. A lot more dog and tortilla flavor. yum
As always good fresh tortillas and good dogs make a diff...though as a kid any dog was top...dog....

i forgot the name ...
but there's a hot dog place opening up at Shaw and West, near the social security office.
if we only knew...
someone that had a cafe and could serve us up some "tacodogs", so we could see how they are properly made. Hint, hint, wink, wink.
Quick question, do the deep fried "tacodogs" taste like corndogs? Kinda the same concept, although corndog batter is probably a little sweeter.

The trick on the tortilla
is to only char one side. Roll the taco so the charred side is on the inside.

I admit it
I have to admit to doing the gas stove top trick myself. I can't stand a hot dog boiled or microwaved. Stick a fork through and burn it black on the gas stove. Bummer now is I have an electric stove. I discovered that the gas fireplace will cook them good. I just haven't mastered what utensil to use in the fireplace.
I love a good Hebrew National hot dog. Can't stand the store Costco, but they do have good hot dogs. I have went there just to get them.
DUDE!!
I totally remember making TacoDogs over a flame like Leo described. Only problem was the tortilla use to dry out and crack. Maybe it was cause I wasn't an experienced chef, I couldn't have been more than 11 or 12 at the time.
Wow, now those are some memories!!

maybe we can make that our mission, to find a good, local hot dog. i eat occasionally @ coney island, and even bought a tshirt from them. but, their dogs aren't the best. average at best, imho.
anyone had a dog from the cart over by the courthouse? i had one @ the vibe and it was decent.
Have seen that show
but we've just been on a mission lately for a good sour kraut hot dog. But you know, from a local place.

My aunt made taco dogs all the time
That's good eats. Side of mustard, yum...
Wrap the dog in the corn tortilla, toothpick it closed and fry. Delish...
Another one of our fun ways to make them. Char up a corn tortilla on a gas stove. Throw the dog on the end of a fork. Now hold the dog over the gas flame stove and proceed to char up and heat the dog through (takes practice to achieve your fav level of heated through and char). Wrap in tortilla and enjoy. Yum....

My god that's pure genuis
"that's a taco with a hot dog"
I am so trying that when I get home.
you can't find a good taco in N.Y.
When are west coast people going to wake up and give up on that lame east coast food, south west food from all the western and southwest states blows away any food from New York or the east coast, and only New England maybe can beat the Sea Food since California Sea Food is all contaminated with mercury, and we have to ship it in from Canada, yeah I saw the boxes of frozen fish with Canadian labels at port San Luis Harbor.
Do they make Tacodogs yet? (that's a taco with a hot dog) hehe
taylor Dogs
Go to Visalia for a Taylor Hotdog. Just drive to downtown Visalia and ask someone for directions. Its easy to find and the best dogs around.
Coney Island is waste of money like most Grizzlies food
The dogs bite.
They are boiled not grilled.
Last time I went there for chili dogs they served were a pinkish white. Blahhhhhhhh.
The ones at Tommy's on the Fultom Mall betwen Tulare and Kern are very good. Most of the food at Tommy's is good and reasonably priced.
And Bears know food. Get my STL from the Buck's and a chili dog and fries or a fat Burger from Tommy's lots of times before a Grizzlies game. Today is Thursdays Jambalya at Savanna's is the daily special. Sorry Grizzlies none of your 3 dollar "Bar S" Smart & Final salty all meat weniers for this bear. This bears a picky eater.
Yes when I roam the stadium I check out the trash areas. It's interesting to see what brands and what quality of products they really serve. Anyone remember when they were serving Fuse` (French for rocket) wine. The wine from the Dollar tree. That's not even a quarter a glass. The River Bluff snobs were sucking it down by the case at 6 dollar a glass. LOL. I guess money can't by you class or taste. The Gottrock's crowd in their tacky Shaver Land Brand clothes.
I Also noticed the stadium is using the cheap fries again. Where they slice the whole potato with the skin still on.
There is no consistancy in the quality of food the they serve. Now they have Buffalo Fries smothered in hot sauce. Is it New Yawk City Hat Sawce. Blahh.
hot dogs
I have been to coney island hotdogs in fresno and they arent what they used to be, they were a big disappointment. I love Costco hot dogs you can put what you want on it and I love Cali's they moved to clovis off of Willow and Herndon. You wont be disappointed.
This place isn't in Fresno (unfortunately) but Taylor's Hotdogs in Visalia is most excellent. Maybe someone can convince them to open one up here?
did you
watch a show on Food Network about hot dogs?
I watched one on PBS the other day and man I was hungry the rest of the day.
I've never had a Coney Island dog (Fresno not N.Y.). I'll have to give them a try, hopefully it won't disappoint.
