The spirit of the Jazz Messengers will be in the house when saxophonist Javon Jackson and pianist Benny Green take to the stage of the Sunnyside Performing Arts Center on October 10th in a special concert presented by JazzFresno. Two of the top jazz musicians of their generation, Jackson and Green both got their "big breaks" in jazz when they joined drummer Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers in the late 1980's, a group often called the unofficial "university" of hard bop. Both have gone on to become major jazz stars, building their own sound upon the rich traditions of hard bop. In this new group, the Jackson/Green Project, they're joined by another legendary drummer, Al Foster, who has been the drummer of choice for jazz stars including McCoy Tyner, Herbie Hancock, Joe Henderson. He was Miles Davis's drummer for 13 years in the 1970's and 1980's. Expect a brilliant evening of jazz at its highest level.
