Fresno Famous

Los Angeles-based comedy/rap duo The Argyle Pimps will return to The Cellar Door to welcome in the new year. Boney Beezly and Jamie Lee Nelson (The Argyle Pimps) left Fresno last year to pursue their hip-hop careers in Los Angeles. In early 2008 the group will release a new album and begin heavily touring. The duo can be partially categorized as "Nerdcore"; a hip-hop sub-genre that relies heavily on pop-culture geekery. However, their loosely-structured sets are genre-sprawling improvisations that incorporate the uniqueness of each audience; establishing a special "vibe" every evening. In other words, The Argyle Pimps know how to simultaneously tease and charm the crowd, celebrating the goofiness in us all.

Playing the middle slot is the Hollywood multi-instumentalist and singer/songwriter Peter Daily. Back in January, Daily toured through Visalia as a drummer for Pigeon John. But Daily's own music is very different than Pigeon John's hip-hop groove. Daily's own music utilizes bouncy pop melodies that are reminiscent of 1960's-esque The Beatles and Beach Boys, often centering around a shiny piano or guitar hook, rather than a heavy beat.

Fresno's Flywright start the night off with their uptempo rock.

DJAR will be spinning music throughout the evening, and into the new year.
