I don't think it's actually reviewed by anyone, usually. Although one summer our class was a little over-staffed, so at least one staff member was on the net at all times, and we ran into blocked sites all the time. At the end of summer we all got a little talking to about proper net usage. ;)
typing fuck
I also work for a certain unnamed school district. They are slow with the firewall on this site! I hear students and teachers saying fuck all day, so why would they care if we read it on the internet? Does someone actually review all of the blocked sites we visit? I haven't been called on it yet...
I agree but....
What about those who like to read Fresno Famous from behind firewalls- like schools or work. I work for a certain unnamed school district, and if I try to pull up a page that has the word "fuck" in it, it automatically redirects to a big "ACCESS DENIED - YOU HAVE BEEN REPORTED" page. This really sucks when I'm reading multi-page articles that allow commenting at the end, and some jerk has left a profanity strewn comment, so I can't read the last page of the article. Just another angle to think about.
Word.

Profanity
Isn't as much of a concern to me as abusive and threatening language. That's why I don't think there should be anonymous comments. If you want to verbally abuse someone, you shouldn't be able to hide behind a cloak of anonymity.
if i can't use the f-word i'll stick to

"I may not agree with what you have to say, but I will fight to the death for your right to say it."
I think that we should be far more concerned with posts that are abusive or threaten violence than the swear words that color a persons post.
The power of words
this promises to be a can of worms either way. i feel very strongly that famous should not limit its users' language.
see: chilling effect
since the premise of famous' new digs is to empower expression we should be able to say what we want using whatever fucking words fit!
if famous is to begin censoring or filtering (aka the word 'shit' gets republished as 's-word') that's a worm of a different color.
