What's our fascination with weather about?

My annoyance with weather reporting has grown steadily over the past few years. As most of us know, the weather in Fresno is either cold and foggy or hot. We have a few really nice fall and spring months in between.
Summer evenings are pretty dang pleasant, except for a few weeks when it just won't cool down.
Even when it is foggy, the hills are alive with sunshine and blue skies (as opposed to music).
With only 12 inches of rain a year, there is a newsworthy storm about every 5-10 years.
In spite of the relatively predictable weather, the local news media spends about 1/4 of the morning news discussing weather. Casual conversation probably relies on weather in about the same proportion.
The weather is. Whether you are a Christian who believes that God created the wether and therefore it is perfect, or a Buddhist prcticing acceptance of things as they are...let's get over it.
If our news and our conversations were focused on more meaningful, higher-priority issues, maybe we'd be making more progress toward our goals. Maybe education and literacy? Maybe environmental issues? Maybe refreshers about the constitution? Maybe dialogue about the balance between individual liberty and collective consciousness? I don't know, pick a topic, it's bound to be more interesting.

I'm partial to brawls. That way I can lurk in the back and watch. On the other hand, if a brawl is authentic, I think we should have a go at the Fulton Mall walk in coming up next month. Do you think we could get Jesse to join us?

man, in the east the weather can kill you if your car breaks down. Some days you might want to know that it's better to leave work ar 4:00 to miss the incoming storm.
A central valley august, we watch the temparature hit within 5-10 degrees within the month. 98, 99, 100, 100, 100, 99, 102, 102, 104, 99, 99, 96, 98....blah, blah..
In the east a summer can be: rain monday, beautiful tuesday and Wednesday, Hot and Humid through the weekend, Rain on Monday, cool and breezy on Tuesday and Wednesday...

But sometimes I can't help talking about it. I'm trying to quit though.
But seriously, you have to blame the people who enjoy hearing about this junk all the time. It should seem pretty obvious to anyone who walks outside what the weather is like. I can see if you're going on trip or something and are wondering if it's likely to be foggy or rainy, but it really seems silly to go so in-depth about a regular day's weather.
I wonder if they do it on the east coast. "Oh shit, it's still cold."

I have been fed up with local weather for years! Thanks Craig. What is with the quintuple doppler that only shows us what we already know: rain up North, Sunny down south and, depending on the season, fog from the delta to Bako.
