Lauck's Leaving?
From the Fresno Bee:
"Success has a price. Just ask merchants in Fresno's funky Tower District -- where rents are rising.
One long-standing business that helped build the district's character is closing.
Lauck's Bakery, an Olive Avenue landmark, will close sometime after the holidays. Lauck's owner Darrel Davis said the business, which has changed hands several times over the decades, has been at the corner of Van Ness and Olive avenues since 1939..."

This little bit of depressing news was reported in today's Bee.
The landlord and Davis need to get together and make a deal that works. Both have a responsibility to ensure that the bakery stays at Olive and Maroa and continues to serve the community. Everyone has an interest in keeping it there and if it leaves, it will be just another fact in the "why-Fresno-sucks-column."
But perhaps the most annoying thing about the entire article was the writer, Bethany Clough. First of all, did you actually visit Lauck's? If you did, I would think that you would know that it is on Olive and Maroa, NOT Olive and Van Ness.
There was also this tone throughout the article that businesses are dying to get into the Tower. She writes "Many businesses are eager to be in the Tower, however, and are likely to line up for the space, experts said -- in part because rents are still reasonable, compared to other parts of the city."
Oh, if only that were true, Bethany. My home would be worth a lot more! Unfortunately, from my perspective, there's more vacancies on Olive right now that I can ever remember. Even the Drug Fair died recently.
Maybe the neighborhood IS on the decline. Maybe it's time to give up the dream of having a decent community here in Fresno and move a little more north and a little more east.

even better how about tommy LA or just tommy go away
I'm thinking Tommy_Temperance or Tommy_Tarpey. Maybe Tommy_Tollhouse.
"Success has a price"
whats the deal here? if its really success, they would be able to afford it, but if its on a thin dime & a prayer? Well, I guess the boat didn't rise for everyone then? my advise for the few & the bold, get a group together for a partnership, get an SBA loan to buy the building you need to do do business in, then move there, let those capitalists pigs squeal as you walk away with their money-tree
went to a seminar in LA on franchising & SBA was the best, they have expert mentors, ect... & the best part is the deal on buying the building were you do business, check that out

when that happens, will you become Tommy_Clovis or Tommy_ex-Tower?
Speaking of Carpetbaggers!
I went to register to run for Mayor right, well the lady won't let me because I am not 18 yet, but I will be before election day. but anyways I have a home in Fresno were I was born, and Fowler. When she found out that I was going to school in Fowler, and stay till schools over with my grandma, she said that you have to live in Fresno to run for Mayor or it's against the law. Alan is from Riverdale, and when he was running he was living in L.A. it's all celebrity. As for that Clovis carpetbagger I wouldn't for him he's been in office as co-Mayor for like what 3 months and he already wants to run shit.
Re Lauck's sweet ladys, the greedy owner and, Bubba and crew
The ladys have always been sweet and kind to me there.
Word is that not only is the building owner raising the rent, the owner doesn't want to fix the building.
So Mayor Bubba, Ms. Sterling and the rest of the crew should step up to the plate and tell the owner if Lauck's is forced out your building stays empty until you bring it up to compliance with all building codes and porperly landscape it.
But Babba and company tend to look the otherway an vacant buildings not kept up or safe.
Look how long old Hanoian's Market has been an eyesore and safty hazzard.
In other citys like SF and LA the councils step in to protect historic places and businesses.
I'm sure if Bubba used Lauck's as his office he'd be yelling if it closed.
But then Bubba's not is not Fresno or from Fresno.
He is a carpetbagger and he is trying to get that Clovis carpetbagger elected Mayor
So what do our future "Mayor wannabe's" think about this?
Or are people of Fresno willing to allow more of the same and allow carpetbaggers.
Well..............
Tommy Tower;
Connsidering what is known about said subject matter and certain individuals.....
I think you answered your own question.
I'm forbiden from naming names on this site.
Even though I'd have no problem facing certain individuals face to face.
Cornerstone
I don't think Cornerstone is in a position to buy anything. Word on the street is that they are in foreclosure. I guess donations are down.
Hey OrangeBear
If Cornerstone moves into the Tower, can we expect an increase in the number of sexual assaults?
They're not the only ones
Been in a couple places in the Tower (both ironically now closed too) where the tone was the same. So much for "neighborhood" - fortunately they're the exceptions not the rule, and I'm sure something worthwhile will fill both the Drug Fair and Lauck's spaces.
Sweet ladies at Laucks????
Since when? Everytime I go in there I'm greeted with sourpuss faces and rudeness. Maybe I went in there on the wrong day, but the ladies at Laucks never smile and answer in a gruff tone.
Same goes with Drug Fair. Rude and overpriced. I went in one morning 10 minutes before they opened because I needed to make a copy on their copier which wouldn't have made a difference to anyone as the copier is self contained and not attached to a register, if that is what they were worried about. They said NO! What the hell was that for? Some way to cater to the neighborhood. I'm glad they're gone, I only hope someone with more love for the people of the neighborhood opens it back up. We really do need them.
Maybe Starscmuck's will take over Lauck's
and turn it into another cyber bucks like at River Park.
They let Starschmuck's open in the Tower and at first it was nice.
Then after the local places were killed off they let it go downhill.
It feels tired and worn out.
The bathrom is more tagged up then a bullmutts body..
Hugs to the sweet Ladys at Lauck's you will missed.
Face it the old Tower Charm is long dead.
This is just another nail in the coffin.
Just wait till Cornerstone Curch buys the Tower Theater.
