BAIRD SCHOOL, FRESNO & Good Company Players presents
Neil Simon's early comedy hit BAREFOOT IN THE PARK ON SATURDAY FEBRUARY 4TH
AT 8:30
PM at the 2nd Space Theatre. DOORS OPEN AT 7:30 PM.
The story of Corie and Paul Bratter's newlywed misadventures in 1963 was an
early Simon block-buster on Broadway; the role of Paul was also breakout
casting for a young actor named Robert Redford.
Simon mines humor from the exhausting climb to the Bratter's tiny New York
apartment and from two odd couple-ish pairings: the free-spirited Corie and
her more button-downed husband, as well as Corie's starchy mother and the
devil-may-care gentleman from a neighboring apartment.
BAREFOOT IN THE PARK falls between Simon's first Broadway hit, 1961's
coming-of-age farce COME BLOW YOUR HORN, and the universal, durable ODD
COUPLE that premiered in 1965. All three plays touch on a frequent Simon
theme: that differences that engender conflict and threaten harmony have to
be resolved through compromise and moderation, not change.
Good Company's production, directed by Patrick Allan Tromborg, is set in the
early 60s. The cast includes Pepper Delano as Corie, Andrew Cardillo as
Paul, and Debbie Walker and Andy Hart as Code's mother and her swain, Victor
Velasco. Also featured in the cast are Will Albritton and Ronald Blackwell.
GCP's 150-seat arena theater is at 928 E. Olive Avenue, at Olive and Van
Ness in Fresno's Tower District. For reservations, please call LESLIE
GIFFEN AT 451-4310 X 321.
