Video Delivery to home
I think you are thinking of Hollywood Video Biz,( no relation to the current Hollywood Video.)
Rumor had it that Hollywood video Biz was busted by the FBI because they were buying just 1-2 copies of then current videos and then making bootlegs to sell and rent.

the little theater
There's an almost forgotten one, it was called "Kiddie Cinema" my mom took me & friends there. Which just triggered another memory, "Picture Book" nursery school.
Greek restaurant
I remember it to, seems like it was next to the old rialto bowling alley on Van Ness, uae to dodge a lot of ball's setting up pin's there.
Blakely's pool
I don't remember a mermaid but the do remember the tower and the big slide, they were scary.
In the Tower?
It was Mr. Sam's. The same site was the original site of Kim's Vietnamese restaurant.
Manchester Cinema / Carnation
I used to work at Carnation next to Manchester Cinema in the late 60's. We had a wild and wacky crew of employees who would always be pulling pranks and goofing off once the day manager went home. Our night managers were as fun as the rest of us. The waitresses wore goofy-looking striped skirts. After the place closed around midnight,we'd have shopping cart races in the parking lot. Fun times.
Jewels Stables
I can't believe someone other than me went there. Wasn't it by Harpains Dairy?
greek restaurant
It was on Van Ness

I was still SEARCHING for
Question ... did Fresno ever have a MELS ?
I was a San Jose boy back then and my weekends
in Fresno from 1965 on were so enjoyable . Before we started Nascar Super Modified racing we would actualy trailer "street cars"
to Fresno to Drag Race on Friday and Saturday
nights usually for $ 50 a gear ... Never had the nerve to race for PINKS ! Back then a 12 second street car was SERIOUS ! We had a
427 Ford altered wheelbase Thunderbolt Clone.
I was still SEARCHING for the girl in the YELLOW 1966 MUSTANG @ Mars Drive In
( Belmont ? or Shaw ? )...This is almost like a scene out of the Movie American Grafetti only taking place in Fresno !
Back in the 70/s she was the most beautiful young lady at the drive in... Went to Queen of the Valley Academy (High School / Fresno ) ... Then she was Candy Minasian ... By then we were racing Super Modifieds every week Kearney Bowl , Clovis and Madera and cruised on Blackstone .
Who would ever expect to find her 37 years later in Reno Nevada and she would agree to become Mrs Richard (Candy) Davis ... Prayers are answered and teenage dreams do come true ...
We are now planning a trip back down memory lane TOGETHER ...back to Fresno ...and YES we will GO BACK to Fresno in same 1964 Vette that I used to CRUISE Blackstone ... Hang out at the drive ins ... only now as newly-weds some
37 years later !................Richard and Candy Davis Reno, Nevada (email AzRoute66@aol.com )

TACO CHARLEY
Growing Up in Southeast Fresno...
We moved from Clovis to Fresno in September 1960 on 9th Street between Ventura and Lowe. Juvenile Hall was just over the fence where we lived. Attended Winchell Elementary, Sequoia Junior High and RHS. I loved Fresno in the 60s.
I remember nickel cones at Foster Freeze on the corner of Ventura and 9th and I believe it is still there, going to the downtown theaters like the Crest, Hardy's, Warner's, Wilson's, and Sequoia. I caught a bus nearly every Saturday for only a dime. I remember being on 'The Uncle Bill Show' KMJ Channel 24, who showcased the old 'Mickey Mouse Club' and 'The Adventures of Superman.' He gave us the grand tour of the old station. Al Radka brought 'The Three Stooges' to the opening of 'College Green Homes' in the early 60s.
I had one of the best paper routes on Huntington Blvd and one block on Kerchkoff.
I remember riding my bike in the summer time to either Blakely's or Calwa pool. Blakely's was pricey though. 50 cents. But it was worth it to see great looking girls, the giant water slide, and getting the nerve to dive from the tower. Wonderful memories.

Foodland is not there.
I remember that accident. I
I remember that accident. I was in junior high or high school. It was in the paper, most horrific. I believed it was at the intersection of Olive and Fresno Streets.
Lost Fresno
I went to Cooper Jr. High and the Fig Orchards were just on the north side of Ashlan ave. There was a slot car track out off of either Cedar or Chestnut by the Triple J Drugs. Rudy's Variety Store on Shields just east of West Ave. Anyone remember a small little theater house on Shields Ave. just west of West Ave? It was across the street from the Food Bank Grocery Store. And Farmers Market and Rossi's Pizza, Mmmm best pizza in Fresno, and Annie Laurie's at the Blackstone/ Shields mall, best milkshakes in town. Mid State Bowl was a hangout, is the bowling alley still there? There was a driving range on north Blackstone somewhere around Bullard ave. and last but not least Davy, where you goin' " Bill Eads Moblie Homes, the largest selection in the valley!"
Air Guitar
Anyone remember "Air Guitar" at the Fresno State Ampitheatre during Vintage Days? Do they still have that? I've been gone a while.
Ararat Deli?
Is Ararat Deli still on Mark's and Bullard in the Foodland shopping center?
Thank You For This Site
I was born in Fresno at the old Sequioa Hospital back in 1953. I moved from there in 1993. My parents & sisters are still there, so I go back from time to time. I missed Fresno WAY before I ever left there. But thanks for this website, that I am still allowed to go back & relive so many of my years there. To the town that I spent so many years loving, & never thought I'd leave. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
drive in days
I remember while I was in high school, A bunch of us went to the Sunset to see our 3 movies. The main feature was "Night Of The Living Dead". It scared the crap out of me. And as if that wasn't enough, of course the guys decided to drive through the cemeteries on the way home. They stopped the car, & said it had run out of gas. I was so scared. I'll never forget that, but they were some fun & crazy times.
drive in days
My dad was the manager for years at Sunset Drive-in. He had a ton of stories, one of my favorite was on a real windy night, he was near the box office when a car came in. He had to wear a bright yellow blazer and the car stopped and asked him if the wind would cause any problems with the movie. He answered "It may blow the picture off the screen a few times, but we'll get it back on" The driver said "ok good, we really want to see this movie"
Lost Fresno County
We live up by Pine Flat Lake. Yes Humphrey's Station is still there, along with the little cafe and the water wheel. We love driving along Watts Valley Road, Sample Road, Burrough Valley Road and Maxson Road to get home around the back of the lake. Never saw a ghost but then we drive in the daytime. I took one trip with my husband driving up Tollhouse Road to get to Shaver Lake, whoa what a drive! It was again in the daytime. Maybe we will go up there in the evening sometime and come back down on the 168.
My husband used to drive up there for the old Clovis Ambulance (part of American Ambulance now) back in the late 70's. I always let him drive because I do NOT want to get lost, LOL! And yes, he says there were a lot of bad accidents on all those roads. A lot of places have no guard rail!
We work in town and drive down to Fresno every day. What a gorgeous commute!
I MISS FRESNO 2
1. I miss the days when I knew I was getting near Roeding Park by the smell of the eucalyptus trees while still a little ways from the park. (you can't hardly smell them anymore while you're in it now.)
2. Dick Hansen's Pet Shop on Blackstone (where we got our first dog when I was very little.)
3. The Fresno Bee telling me "Goodnight."
4. Piling in my friend's convertable for lunch & going to "Munchies".(.10 cent hamburgers)
5. The house I grew up in (it's still there) & watching them put Aslan Park Shopping Center in.
6. Harpain's Dairy (loved going & petting the calves)
7. McLane High (Class of '71)
drive in days
I believe that was the Moon-Glo drive in. Do you remember tha "Sunset" drive in past the cemeteries on Whitesbridge Road? Always showed 3 movies for only $1.50 a carload. Boy! Those were the days.
drive in days
Does anyone remember the drive in movie theatre on dakota and hughes, which later became dakota woods . We used to get on the roof of our house and tune our radio in to the signal coming from the various movies playing. That was kinda like the first version of movie piracy but oh so fun!
9. Taking a country drive from Fresno to Clovis.
that was long gone by the 1980's, I got here in 84 & I don't think there was any countryside between Clovis & Fresno except in FSU
I remember going to a friend's house-warming in 1989 or 90, she had bought a condo in a gated community, she said go east on Minarets from Blackstone, but all I saw was orchards & fields all over, so I turned west into Pinedale, big mistake, I saw the Vagos motorcycle club house, said to myself, wrong part of town, I think I'll go east like she said, turned right around & it was farther in past those orchards/fields

Christmas Tree Lane
Yes, Christmas Tree Lane is going strong. They now close it to cars two nights so pedestrians can walk.
Just about. For my
Just about. For my elementary years I lived behind the Thrifty's on Blackstone and I think Shields. You could see Slakey Bros. Manufacturing from my front yard. This was before we lived at the end of Bullard. Manchester Mall was jammin back then, and so was Fashion Fair. I,m talkin about the days before the 41 frwy was built. When Sound Stage was in its first location. There was Einstein Park, we practically lived there during the summer. Back in those days you could be 7 or 8 years old and go all over the place by yourself and your parents had nothing to worry about. I remember going to Thrifty's and getting the triple scoop for like 15 cents or so and of course having to check out the KISS, or Star Wars bubble gum cards. Going down almost every block from Blackstone to Fresno st. and having a friend on every block. I could go on.
Parallel Universe?
Dude, It's like we grew up in parallel universes! I'm 4 years older and lived just off Fresno St. between Shields and Dakota. I went to Manchester School and then Ft. Miller. But we hung at the same haunts -- Manchester Center, McDonald's, Arthur's, Wonderland & Blakeley's. You're right -- those were very happy days!
I was there at Bullard, used
I was there at Bullard, used to party in the figs and at a place called Logan's Park that might not be there anymore. Lived all the way up Bullard till you get to the street right before the railroad tracks. The housing track on the right used to have a place in the middle of it that we used to call Mexican Village, because it really was one. The homes were built around '81. Went to Figarden School, then Lawless for 7'th and 8'th grade right when it opened. Had Mr. Jamushian as my 7'th grade teacher. I know about the figs.
Charlie's of Sunnyside
It was located on Clovis Ave.south of Kings Canyon Ave. on the east side of the street.
It was torn down and now is the location of an auto parts store. I think it is an Auto Zone business.
Charlie's or The Remington
Does anyone remember a restaurant in Sunnyside called "Charlie's" or "The Remington?" I believe it was on Clovis Avenue? Does anyone remember this place and/or where it was located?
It was great times!
It was great times! What was the name of the burger joint by Potters? 10 burgers for a buck. Did you ever go to Church Park?
Oh yes Gong's Market!!
On the way home from Ernie Pyle was Gong's Market. And then when right around the time I was in 4'th grade or 5'th came Round Table Pizza in Gong's parking lot. Bought lots of Astro Pops from Gong's and played alot of Asteroids in Round Table. Memories, memories.
