Urban Outfitters and a Bloomingdales?!
Submitted by Megan on Thu, 02/02/2006 - 19:02.
I was informed last night (by an 11 PM urgent phone message) that Fresno's on it's way to getting an Urban Outfitters at Fashion Fair, along with a slew of swanky shops and restaurants over at Fig Garden (i.e. BCBG, Bloomingdales, Ruth Chris' Steak House). The information came from Wikipedia, of all places (which has a link to FLYP, yay): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fresno%2C_California. Any creedence to any of these statements? I'm stoked to see the development but now everyone will know where I got my cool tshirts and housewares (natch).

aha...
I knew I shopped at the origional store down in Philly in the early eighties...
Some of those shirts lasted, erm,,, 20 years at least...
Wondering what somebody's views on anothers sexuality has to do with clothing and interesting houseware...
Seriously, I'ts gotta be a royal pain to have to be sure that you fund (only,) those who are one hundred percent in agreement with... (I like the idea of supporting area businesspeople... but are they only selling area made stuff? (like, from the ground up?) -and what if they are NOT in line with my stances?
I'm just curious where it ends, and where one gets the information from to determine who's 'noble,' and 'worthy,' of our honest pay and good word of mouth?
-How do you decide?
UO ain't all that!
You guys know that Rick Santorum [openly-homophobic senator from Pennsylvania] is one of Urban Outfitter's largest shareholders, right? Not to mention the fact that all of the art they use on their clothes is blatantly ripped off from actual artists ...
Don't shop there. It's a total scam.
Plus, the clothes fall apart.
Give your money to a local business, instead ...
easy there chief, yer gonna bust something...
I'm talking about the whole construct of the posting board from this morning.... (does anyone else in this lovely 'berg think visually?)
It's almost like a written set up of a Spike Jones Song... A gazillion travel agent posted blogs stacked higher than the eye can see, flowing majestic exotic sounds and symphony, get all peaced out, turn a corner and 'boing: Shopping!!!'
It's a visual thing,,, descriptions so sicky sweet that you practically need insulin to read them, and then
'....we're gettin a new store at the mall.'
Juxtaposition, and irony...
(Kind of like your page on MySpace, -you have a picture of a sign in clovis that says 'free meth church.' (United Free Methodist Church.)
-which is hysterical...
None of them are bad things, they are just funny in how they fit together... Sometimes not intended by those involved...
Have fun at the openning day sale... (and if the board this morning inspired you? -there's a decent Chinese food joint just at the end of the parking lot... Idyllic and paradise? no,, but I think they do offer saute'd stringbeans...
(Though if your fortune cookie opens up to a 20percent off ticket for Urban Outfitters, I think we have a new ghost story for Stormy's string...)
Golly Gee, Tweety Bird Overalls at WalMart sure are cute - Ugh
Where did you see "O boy o boy o boy?" I just wanted to point out that Fresno is acquiring decent retail, putting us on par with big cities. Yes, this is a chain, and yes it's at the mall. It would be preferable to develop something like this downtown, but that's just not how it worked out. I'd love to see a Yellow Rat Bastard and an H & M in a shopping center anchored by IKEA behind the stadium.
I know I'm not the only one who feels like when I go to San Francisco (or New York or London) I stick out and look like a hick from a small town because what I'm wearing isn't the most chic. Options for shopping in these parts are getting better.
Don't get me wrong, I love Target (Sub-urban Outfitters), but don't make me sound like a vapid cheerleader because I like to see this city getting a little more sophisticated.
The Wednesday Morning Line Up
...okay, wander in, coffee in hand,
flip on the computer and -like,
-two dozen personal blog entries all about wonderful lively travel to remote and removed, yet exotic and inviting Asian places of wonder.....
(whole board is full of 'em.)
I can smell the strange fruit and spices, am thinking of dropping an unbrella in my cup of joe,
-1950's Hawaiian Lap Steel travelogue music is starting to play in my head....(not sure exactly why, but hey, I'll go with it...)
then page 2:
'o boy, o boy, o boy!!!!!,
WE'RE GETTING AN URBAN OUTFITTERS AT FASHION FAIR.'
*Insert Your Joke Here*
It's true
Urban Outfitters opens Wednesday. Good thing I'm broke.
Gotta love...
...living in a giant urban sprawl strip mall.

urbanoutfitters
I just went to Fresno a few days ago and Urban Outfitters had people moving things into the building already. I'm assuming it'll open up really soon.
urban outfitters
yes. urban outfitters is most definitely coming to fresno at fashion fair. the urban outfitters website already has that information posted. it should be open in the fall. yay.
Urban O= Glorified Hollister Co.
Fresno should have their clothes influenced by Central Cali, not the sun baked, beach bums in SoCal. Just my opinion.
MUCH LOVE LISA M
urban outfitters
my little brother was just here from Santa Barbara where he manages the Urban Outfitter. According to him, its for sure...FRESNO has been added to their New Store list for 2006!
why be digusted?
shoot, i'd be disgusted if they put an urban outfitters on olive or anywhere in the tower. we've got our own urban outfitters. it's called retro rags.
keep tower as local as possible.
re: Conspiracy Alert!
Thankfully, a friend of mine alerted me to this posting. I think it's an infringement of the author's privacy to have that IP addy up on this board for one thing, and for another Urban Outfitters and Fashion Fair have both confirmed the store is opening so how do you figure there is a conspiracy?
Now, ahem, as for those Fig Garden shops..I admit I am the culprit.. please allow me to apologize for raising anyone's hopes on those stores opening there listed on the wikipedia. It was sort of intended as.. parody :-) I never dreamed anyone would take it seriously (I mean really, Neiman Marcus or the Rainforest Cafe in Fresno? Come on you gotta laugh...) but nevertheless I have amended that entry and feel badly that an entire blog was set up over my little daydreaming episode. Personally I wouldn't shop at any of those places anyway, but just remember if YOU want to they're only a 3 hr car ride away :-) Ick, I guess I'm digging the hole deeper. Anyone got a rope? And no I don't mean for my neck. Cheers
Conspiracy Alert!
The great thing about wikipedia is that you can track down whoever adds any content. It seems to me that the Urban Outfitters reference was inserted by someone with an IP that reconciles to http://babcockbrown.com/.
I feel a serious Blog coming on...
Boy am I disgusted!

i spoke too soon...
a few minutes after my post I heard that Fashion Fair confirmed Urban Outfitters was coming.
Read the Bee story by Bethany Clough.
Re: Urban Outfitters
I did a comparison of the Urban Outfitters store locations and the Anthropologie locations, and if they did "mix it up" it would seemingly be a first. None of the Anthropologie stores are listed on the Urban Outfitter's website.
if they did come to town...
If Urban Outfitters goes into any location north of olive, it would be a real shame. It would be great if they moved to Tower, at least, if not downtown.

Awesome
I think it is really great that Fresno may be getting some of these stores. Even if we don't get these at least these places are finally starting to ttake Fresno serious and consider coming into town. So I am really excited to see what is in store for Fresno in the next couple of years.
stores
that list of stores on the wikipedia is pretty nuts. i'm with joe that it looks more like a wish list, a couple of those are coming, but others I haven't heard anything on.
as far as Urban Outfitters, here's what I know: Anthropologie (i think that's how you spell it) is coming to Fashion Fair for sure. The confusion is that Urban Outfitters owns that franchise. On the Urban Outfitters site, it says its opening a store in Fresno, but when a fellow reporter here at the Bee called, they said it was just that anthropologie store.
Maybe that's the case or maybe they just don't want to let the cat out of the bag yet. Becuase I've heard the Urban Outfitters rumors, too.
Re: New retail
I hate to throw water on anyone's fire, but that list of stores supposedly coming to Fig Garden up on Wikipedia looks a lot to me like someone's wish list, more than anything else. I'm not sure how credible that info is.
Cool
Thanks for posting this info! My friend had heard that an Urban Outfitters was comming to Fresno but then someone else had said they werent. I'm very excited to hear that they are comming. Fig Garden really is expanding, I like going to Whole Foods. I love to shop so it is awesome that all these new shops are comming to Fresno.
thanks joe
now REI...there's an outdoorsperson's store!

Re: REI
The Business Journal, which is our partner in "The Pulse - KFSR's Business Roundtable" is reporting that REI is in lease negotiations for a store in Fresno. No word on where it might be, but there's only a few possibilities. This was apparently confirmed by a spokesperson from REI who was quoted in the article. We, as well as The Business Journal will report more news when we have it. And from what I hear, there will be a lot more to come, perhaps shortly.
REI too?
I heard that REI was coming to Fresno. It was on the KFSR news prior to their Saturday business show.
Urban Outfitters in Fashion Fair? Wow, how urban of them.

Great!
Wow,
Coming to fresno from Orange County I had to get used to the fact that we didnt really have to much to offer in the form of shops, but now I have notice that fresno is expanding and i look forward to seeing what future shops and restaurants are heading up here.
