Famous Choice Awards: Season 2
Not to alienate, but we here at Famous are way cooler than the general population. Now, that’s a complete overstatement of fact, but most of y’all do little to prove otherwise. Case in point: The Fresno Bee’s People’s Choice Awards (winners soon to be announced), where even money says readers will vote Taco Bell Best Meal Under $10, Starbucks as Best Coffee and Macy’s for just about everything else.
But we here in Famous land like our bloggers snarky, our celebrities pseudo and our businesses mom-and-pop. So, we created The Famous Choice Awards — a chance to chime in on your Fresno favorites, whether it’s an ArtHop stop, some great architecture, or a vegetarian joint with choices. And it’s the second annual, which means this things has got some legs.
Voting runs on the site through next week (there on the RIGHTof the main page). Just click to vote (feel free to leave additional comments here).
Winners will be tallied and announced on April 3.

Playing Hurt
You are following a fine and long tradition of guitar players playing while hurt or disabled. Django Reinhart played with only two functional fingers on his left hand and Les Paul played with a completely destroyed right elbow. He had the doctors set the elbow at the correct angle to play the guitar. You are amongst the greats. Good luck or "break a leg" as the actors would say.
that's 'learNing'
geez, you might forgive my bad typewroter if you saw the big freakin' bandage on my index finger(nasty wound), and me with a gig in two days.
learing from ono
yeah, i sat in on a lunch time picking session with Steve one time---
a guy could learn a thing or two (or a thousand) from a guy like this.
( I just need to schedule some lessons!)
Cheap Tricks
The blue book "Cheap Tricks" is available at the Cal Arts Academy on Blackstone. I also have available my "Beginnings" book for Guitar and for Bass guitar. Other titles I've written: "Interval Graphics", a paint by number chord approach, and "Can Ambitious Guitarists Even Dream?". It just amazes me how many players don't take musicianship seriously. Why settle for ignorance?
steve
the person before you bolded their post using html and didn't put the end.
and, btw, it was great that you mentioned how someone was like, "you're famous." i thought the same thing the one time i've talked to you. except i was like, "i bought your blue book on playing the guitar when i was younger."
same difference. good stuff.
Bold?
Why is it bold? I don't know.
see ...
That's why I voted for ed as best famous user.
one second
just ending a bold
Thanks
Wow Thanks I scored much higher than expected as a Famous User (I expected nothing). And they used my Real Name not the onomuse handle.
It's flattering to know some people think well of me. Thanks again.
I scored a big goose egg in the musician catagory though which is understandable as times change.
I remember making a joking around with a fan back in the early 90's. He recognized me but couldn't remember my name. I introduced myself and he said, "Steve Ono, you're famous!" I replied, "I'm famous in Fresno. What does that mean anyway? I wish it payed the bills. It's not like being famous in LA or NYC."
When I discovered Fresno Famous I just had to laugh out loud.
Lately I been called a legend by several younger players I've met. This feels strange but is no different than what I said when I met and played old time and swing music with Frank Hicks (King of the Passing Chord) back in the 70's.
I play guitar and sing and I am available for live performance or recording projects. I am familiar with most styles of american popular music.
I also do transcription, lead sheets, chord charts, arranging and composition for small combos to string quartets.
I produce demos and albums in my home studio and other local studios. I have worked with Patrick Contreras, Alain Lee, Cerro Negro, Pieter Moerdijk and several singer songwriters and poets.
I teach guitar, bass guitar, music theory, improvisation, composition and arranging. I also do band consulting.
Listen to my music here and at myspace and call me and put me to work. My phone number is 559-266-4762
Come on out to Fahrenheit 5104 on Thursday at 7 pm, have dinner, listen and support one of your local musicians.
The REAL "celebrities" in that category!
I think that these awards are fucking funny as hell... but totally hold real ground! At least these nominations have real truth to them... and aren't just North Fresno people being "high and mighty" conservatives ;) lol. I must say though that the recent rise in respect for K-Fed (father of the year) and recent trips to the slammer for Matthew Fashion have paid off! Vote for the real messes... i mean.. Celebrities from this valley!
I put you there Ghost of Al Radka
and I can take you off. Better by me a drink.
Vote for the GHOST of AL RADKA!
OMG!!!
I'm totally beating Pops the Tower District crackhead?!
I'm COOOOOOOOL!!!!!!!
are you saying I'm cool?
Heck, I was nominated and wasn't told! Did I miss the luncheon? There is a luncheon, isn't there? There better be a luncheon, dammit!
I'm on the Ballot!
Under "Celebrity"! Vote for me!
you see...
Famous is actually so much cooler than the rest of Fresno that it exists on a different level of direction, where right is life and left is right.
You're just lame. Stay here, we're going to Tokyo ...
The other left
Looks like it's on the right to me, as of this response.
