Democracy Now! TV Show starts today on KNXT channel 49

As reported in the Bee by Rick Bentley on 13Mar08, The TV show version of Democracy Now! starts today on channel 49/Comcast cable 9 at 6pm. In my opinion it's a strange turn of events for the Catholic Church local tv channel to broadcast one of the most liberal voices in the country, seeing how so many conservative issues are embraced by the church.
That is, except one: Anti-War. It is the one totally liberal issue Amy Goodman and the Church have in common that I can see. Or, maybe there has been a turn to embrace liberal voices seeing how things have been going with the Republicans the last several years. Whatever the reason I am so grateful to have this liberal voice available in Fresno. It will be a nice contrast to the domination of the local airwaves by the conservative talk shows.
Bring Air America back to Fresno!

Yes, I had the same grim thoughts BUT...

I also had the thinking that we ("we" being the people who support, more or less, Democracy Now's political positions on the issues you mentioned) can send letters of support to KNXT, specifically praising them for caring so much about the war issue that they are supporting a show which doesn't necessarily agree with the official Catholic position on various other issues.

I also think that "we"--if we are financially able--can send some financial support when we thank them for bringing Democracy Now to local Fresno tv. This is money that a local religious tv station would probably never otherwise get.

Another thing to bear in mind is the difference between official Catholic teachings and the many real-life Catholic people who are very politically progressive. The station is being run by real live people, who have ideas and feelings that are more complex than official dogma. I want to have faith in them to do the right thing!

I predict that Democracy Now! will be cancelled
from KNXT TV within 6 months.

When they see Amy Goodman's position on:

1. Abortion
2. Contraception
3. Women's rights
4. Faith-based Intitiative
5. Prison-Industrial Complex
6. GLBT issues

It reminds me of when KMJ put on Air America and then yanked it off the air a few months later realizing what they had done: Given a voice to liberal issues in a town controlled by conservatives.

Democracy Now on KFCF 88.1 FM

If you can't wait until evening and don't have a satellite dish, Democracy Now airs every morning at 6 and 9 a.m. on KFCF 88.1 FM in Fresno.

Yay! Yes, I love Democracy Now too. We used to get it on Free Speech TV when we had Dish a couple years ago... I'll definitely watch!

It was on and it was nice to see on tv the subjects covered and the way they can linger on one subject for so long without the constraints of commercials.
News from Pakistan and other countries that are usually just skimmed over.

I won't be home in time to try to catch this--can someone please post later, whether it was actually on?--the Comcast TV listings don't have it listed on KNXT at 6pm, either tonight or tomorrow.
