Filmworks is definitely the way to go
There are lots of reasons to be thankful for the good people at Fresno Filmworks. The nonprofit arts collective has been fiercely dedicated to bringing first-run independent and foreign cinema to the Tower Theater once a month for nearly four years steady now. If you haven't been to a Filmworks screening before, there's no better time than now.
This month's showing is The Untold Story of Emmett Louis Till, a fine documentary on the black teen who was murdered in 1955 for whistling at a white woman in the South. Director Keith Beauchamp weaves his own story into his quest for Till's full story, almost 50 years after the slaying.
The film plays at the Tower Theater at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 10, only. Admission is $10 general and $8 for seniors and students.
If you still have a movie hankering this weekend, there are sadly no new indie openings at the major multiplexes. But it might be a good time to catch a few Oscar candidates if you haven't already:
Mrs. Henderson Presents, playing at Clovis Town Center.
Capote, playing at Edwards.
Match Point , playing at Manchester.
Have fun, people.

missing the show
I've gone to one filmworks showings, when they were showing DVD's on a video projector at the Starline early 2003. (24 Hour Party People was the feature I remember)
I was walking in Chinatown after the new years paraded and noticed a fresno filmworks poster for 'The Battle of Algiers' that they showed in May of 2004 at the Tower theater, I can't believe I missed that. I must have focus my attention on something else at that time.
I'm sure I've missed some other good films shown.
fresno filmworks
While I totally support Fresno Filmworks and everything they do, including the desire to bring a indepedent art theatre to Fresno, I've never made it out to one of thier screenings. Hopefully next month.
Does anyone know their email address? There's none listed on the site.
