Algae: 'The ultimate in renewable energy'
By Marsha Walton
ANTHONY, Texas (CNN) -- Texas may be best known for "Big Oil." But the oil that could some day make a dent in the country's use of fossil fuels is small. Microscopic, in fact: algae. Literally and figuratively, this is green fuel.
"Algae is the ultimate in renewable energy," Glen Kertz, president and CEO of Valcent Products, told CNN while conducting a tour of his algae greenhouse on the outskirts of El Paso.
...
Kertz said he can produce about 100,000 gallons of algae oil a year per acre, compared to about 30 gallons per acre from corn; 50 gallons from soybeans.

We need something better (more efficient) than corn or soybeans; in addition to driving up the price of wheat, biofuels are tearing down the Amazon:

cost of production
The plummeting stock appears to be nothing more than profit taking prior to large equipment costs for increase of production.
Alternative modes of transportation, like convenient mass transit, are also a viable consideration for environmental sustainability.
Many alternative sources of energy out there. What we need is leadership with vision. The will to find and develop these new forms of energy. Instead of narrow views that shackle us to the old energy sources that are decaying. I like this story. Never heard of energy from algae! Did anyone notice our local Pacific Ethanol's stock plummeting? It's only been a year or so since Bill Gates invested Twenty million in it.
