The first home pizza delivery service that allowed ordering by phone was started in 1927 by now-defunct St. Mark's Pizza in New York City. Deliveries soon fell prey to the Great Depression, and weren't revived until after World War II.

Say Hi to Andy after work today at Club Fred

At 5pm tonight, Andy Emparin is throwing a party at Club Fred. I think it's a 'glad to still be alive' party. I think there's a five dollar cover going towards helping folks who've had brain injuries. Andy had a bad car wreck last year and has come out of it quite well. It certainly hasn't injured his big heart.

Mike Oz wrote a nice column about it last Friday if you still have your paper lying around (I couldn't find the online version to add a link. Dang, the Fresno Bee's search mechanism leaves a bit to be desired and/or I'm just super lame.)

The column mentioned Nate Butler and Roger Perry as part of the live music.
Just dropping by to chat with Andy for a bit is a great idea.
Possible topics of conversation:
1)Compare and contrast any eary 80's Jethro Tull appearance at the Selland Arena with any local hardcore gig of the same era.
2) When's your coffee-table book of local gig photos gonna happen?
3) What exactly was "The Dart Club"?

and...

turns out it was me who was superlame.
I always spelled andy's name EmparIN. A search with
the AN ending yielded both articles. My apologies to any
ill feelings I cast upon the Bee's poor ol' search engine.

hmmm

crap.

(thanks for the update and the links Mr. Oz)

I'll have to call him up.

actually, Blake....

Andy canceled the show -- both myself and Club Fred (and perhaps others) got a late-night call from Andy saying as much. He didn't really give any details, only that it was for personal reasons.

Here's an item from today's paper announcing the change:

Here's the original column Blake talked about:

I'm guessing it's a matter of Andy not feeling well. He told me he has good days and some really bad days. But that's just a hunch.

However, like the brief from today says, there will still be music going on tonight at Fred's.
