My own Fresno first...A Grizzlies-game recap
Taking a cue from Mr. Mike Oz, I had a little Fresno first of my own Sunday afternoon. I saw my first ever Fresno Grizzlies game at the Chuck. You're probably wondering how it is I had never seen a Grizzlies game or really been to the stadium before, but, truth is, I'm not much of a sports guy, so there wasn't really an appeal there for me.
That said: This was a really good time. Part of that probably had to do with the fact we were sitting in a suite (thanks Famous overlords) with a bunch of really great bloggers and Famous users and friends (thanks to all). Also: I got to drink a beer in the 600 Club. Also: the weather was nice.
Some thoughts: I always thought baseball games lasted like twenty hours. This one was over in just about two, which was just perfect for a guy who doesn't really know all that much about the game. I suspect it's also nice to see the home team win. I give credit to the Grizzlies PR team, those guys and gals dancing on the top of the dugout and bringing the kids down on to the field to run the bases with the mascots and all that. See what a marketing/communications degree can get you? Also, sitting in the stadium, Fresno actually seems like a pretty awesome place. You look around and see all this bright green grass, the blue sky and all these tall buildings, an almost actual skyline. If your company is trying woo an out-of-towner, just bring them to a ball game. Then, don't let them leave.
Highlights: The stadium signage. There's a lot of it and some of them are pretty darn funny. My favorite (if I were a real blogger I'd have pictures, deal with it): A sign for some kind of marriage classes that read, 'Hit a Home Run with Your Wife.' Yes!
After the game we walked down the Fulton Mall to get a drink (or two) at Milano. The mall was totally body-locked because of Cinco de Mayo celebrations, meaning getting through the crowd was a hassle and a half. Seriously, it was a body-to-body for a full street block or more. Milano was great, they had cheap beer and a pretty good band I never got the name of (if I were a real blogger I'd have video).
