Local news station deciding what is right and wrong

I just saw a local news channel airing a promotional spot for a "Breaking News" story. It concerns a local "sex club" as it was described. The promo starts off saying something like "Fresno has over 500 churches, and a born-again christian mayor, and now a sex club?"
It just seems to me that this news station, in it's heat to attain high ratings through sensationalism, is overlooking something much more harmful to the general public, the local crime rate. Sure, a sex club - if thats what it is (hard to tell exactly, from the info given) - is of course not the most mainstream of ideas.... However, I'm sure it is not near any schools, which would be a problem, or the news station would surely have included THAT in the promo!)

It just seemed a bit too much on the ultra-conservative / Salem Witch Hunt / Puritannical-train for me. Coming from NY, of all places, even I think the crime in the Fresno area is clearly out of control, based on the daily local shooting/stabbing/etc/etc list. If the local news thinks we have something to be concerned about, I would think that "crime reduction" should go in the slot above "stopping sex clubs".

No doubt! There are so many churches being built..it really is insane. It's not really the number that bothers me, except for the fact that if they were REALLY practicing what they preach then they'd be building much more MODEST churches instead of the ultra-nice buildings. They spare no expense, really. Just goes to show where their priorities are. As for news shows, the only ones you can trust are the ones on KVPT and possibly Keith Olberman or even Jon Stewart's Daily show. Stewart is more newsworthy than FOX, seriously.

Sex club

Great comments!
Why am I here?....well, I'm Italian too. I know, you think I'm in the witness protection program. Not.
Actually I came for a job, found on the Internet, 6 years ago. Been here since. All I heard at the time was "California", so I figured it would be beaches, bikinis, etc. Instead I got cows, grapes, and churches.
But it's not so bad. The weather is certainly better. The people are about the same, some good, some bad. Some of the food could be better.

As far as the sex club, yeah, I agree 100%. If they want to improve the image of Fresno, they really need to focus on other things, like the things that hurt people (guns, rapists, gangs, child molesters, etc).
The churches need to start doing something productive to reduce this ridiculous crime rate, instead of getting the police to harass the sex club, just becuase they don't believe in it. These churches enjoy tax free status, so they should stop complaining, and start doing something besides praying.

Bohemian Grove Men's Club? I know I shouldn't ask, but what the heck is that?

"Churching" good business

Agreed on all points. I'm sure the 500 number is low, all one needs to do is ride down Nees, and it seems like there's about 500 on that one street alone. How many of these churches are needed? Whew...

Now I've noticed several popping up in Clovis, on the main drag, Shaw Avenue. In order for these churches to take over major retail space, with lofty rents, for sure, it MUST be good business.
Amazing....

Well, if the sex club business keeps getting free TV publicity (remember, there's no such thing as bad publicity), we may see more of em'... Yes, if we ever hope to compare to SF or LA, we need more sex. ;)
More pharmacies vs. More churches...I wonder which is more profitable.....?

Sex club by virtuoso

Wow from NY ... and WHY are you here? ever think of going back let me know lol... Yeah the crime and all that stuff is really out of control.. that's what they need to be focusing on... and the poverty level..

Not some dumb little sex club.. that is probably frequented by those people from those 500 churches and probably even the "born again" Christian mayor.. who probably is a member of the Bohemian Grove Men's Club..

I know of this sex club you are talking about... but they will probably end up being shut down... esp. with the churches around here.. but like I said.. I bet bottom dollar that there's alot of church elite who go to these sex clubs.

Focus on other things media my god.

Churching must be a good business here.

With only 200 pharmacies, comes out to one pharmacy to every 2,000+ people... Churches work out to be 1 Church for every 800+ people, that's if there is only 500 Church's in the Fresno / Clovis area.

so one Sex club for all the population in Fresno.

4 Adult shops, 2 Strip Clubs, and How many Vice Squad Dicks?

I wonder how San Fransisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Jose and Sacramento compares?

Nothing new about that.

Its a news show there job is to get as many people watching as possible. Sex sells well always has. Best I can say is turn off the TV and dont add to there ratings.
