Taste and Toast of the Tower

Just wondering how many of you went to the Taste and Toast of the Tower. I had a good time and some pleasant surprises (e.g., the bisque at Vini Vedi Vici, even if the usual maitre'd is a jagoff). It seemed like there was a good crowd and everyone was having good time. The only negatives I saw were the businesses that signed up for the Taste and even went so far as to put posters in their windows, but then looked at us Taste patrons like we carried some sort of loathsome and communicable disease when we wandered onto the premises (I'm talking about you, Palomino's). Thoughts?

just throwin' it out there
You make good points Ed. I will give it to Rousseau for having one of the coolest themed rooms in Fresno (that middle one, with the books and what not).
hold on now
maybe the tower committee didn't get them all involved. we talked to some people that had recently been to oggi trattatoria. the management there told my friends that the tower marketing committee had initially contacted them about participating but then hadn't followed up and actually gotten them into the event. i realize that this is totally 4th hand info, but let's not be too quick to assume that a business is being hoity toity.
as for rousseau, i don't know why they weren't in t&t. i do know that the owners there have held it down for the tower. when other businesses badmouthed the tower and then moved out (echo), rousseau continued to expand and bring good food to our neighborhood.
More big-headed tower spots
Is it me or does Rousseau think they're better than the Tower? They didn't even participate in Taste of the Tower, did they?
And they give you static when you walk in there without a reservation (with the freakin' place near empty).
I've never had any problems with the guys at Me N Eds on Wishon. The gentleman passing out pizza last night was very friendly and I talked to him for about 15 minutes. In fact, besides Palomino's, every place was friendly last night.
I was refering to the ones that look down on the people
As for Me & Ed's the last time I got lunch there they were rude and slow.
Other Tower spots to avoid are Tower Chinese and Peach Pit. Now a good Modelo and Mexican food from El Conchito hits the spot.
I had a good time
Really Doug? You wanna mention any other places? Because I had nice chats with the people at Me-N-Eds, Roger Rockas, Tower Tattoo, G-Spot, H&R Block... the list goes on.
But yeah, I suppose one incidence of snooty-ness is totally reason to tell everyone you know to steer clear of the Tower District.
I mean, there was that one time my car got broken into in North Fresno, so I'm totally not going back there. It's dangerous.
Why do business people in the Tower have a snotty attitude?
We are not in Paris or Milan.
As for Palimino's the price is too high for the quality. I still remember Paul as the little punk at Hamilton trying to act cool with his fingerless gloves. Where did I put the year book? But then he was always part of that snooty Fresno High/Hamilton clique.
Even if they just allowed him to be around.
You kow the ones. You live on Van Ness but not in Fig Garden. You live on Huntington but not the Boulevard. Cavier dreams but Savemart reality. Most Tower Business Snots look down on others. Makes you wonder why they even open a business in the Tower. Guess it makes them look and feel important since they know they'd never make it out Northe`.
But then we don't have to spend our money with them and can tell others to avoid them.
I forgot about the Taco Pizza. It was another pleasant surprise. Apparently, either "Me" or "Ed" developed it over twenty years ago, but no one bought it back then. It's making a comeback.
i went
i had a sweaty good time. my fav on the night was the englemenn folks @ h&r block.
and me n ed's taco pizza was yummy.
I was there.
I had fun, but I was only there the last half an hour...The only place I got the look of disgust was the perfect blend cigar place..sheeesh..how wude
