The new Thai and Lao Million Elephant Bar is holding its grand opening today! I sampled the food earlier this week and found a good quality neighborhood Thai place, with some Lao for good measure. The chicken Pad Thai was hearty and tasty. Million Elephant is located on Olive at Fulton Lane. The best part? They plan to be open and serving food and drinks until 2am on weekends. Could spring rolls replace burritos as Fresno's favorite late-night snack?
Million Elephant Experience
I have been hearing a lot about this new Thai restaurant in the tower district so I decided to take my family there for lunch today since we were hungry and in the mood for spicy Thai food. It was around 1:30pm on a Monday when we got there. The outside patio had two tables full of customers and the inside was empty. The waitress greeted us and directed us to a table nested in the back near the bathroom. It was such a nice day out that I thought she would've asked if we would have like to sit outside. We sat down and she gave us the menu and then left without a word. Five minutes later she comes back with three glasses of water and asks if we were ready to order. We ordered two appetizers and two entrees. She comes back out with three plates and some silverware and napkins. I thought she was going to set the table for us but it didn't happen. Oh well, I guess I could set my own table. Twenty minutes has passed and my child is telling me she's starving. Finally, after thirty minutes she comes out with our first dish, it was an entrée and not the appetizers like I expected. She was talking on her cell phone while she set the dish down on the corner of the table. She left without saying a word. In all my years of dining out I have never heard of any waiter or waitress serving customers while talking on a cell phone. So much for service, maybe the food will make up for it. WRONG. It was blatantly oblivious that our food had been microwave. The meat was tough, dry and unevenly heated. Here I was thinking it was taking so long to get our food because they were cooking it; I was wrong again. Two minutes later she comes out and with another dish, this time an appetizer and again she was still on her cell phone and she sets the plate down on the corner instead of in the center of the table. Needless to say this scene repeats itself with the last two dishes. The waitress wasn't rude or anything like that. I guess she thought it was acceptable. At this point I was just speechless, I was going to make a comment to the manager but decide it was pointless since I was never going to come back. All my friends and coworkers said this place was great and it probably was for them. My experience at Million Elephant was not and I'm not about to go back for a second time. I'm sure this isn't their typical service but for me one time of bad service is all it takes to lose my business.
Time for Thai WAY better (no I don't work there!)
Sorry, have to disagree with everyone here. And I really question whether they truly are Thai food lovers. I had the chicken green curry at this place and it was awful. I know I could have made it myself, and ten times better. If you really are a Thai lover, I reccomend Time for Thai on Willow and Nees. It's not in the Tower, I know. But if you want really good food, sometimes you have to put aside your need for hipness.
it's good
my wife and i ate dinner there friday night. i was very excited when we walked in and it smelled great. we quickly were seated, although it did take a while for the food to come out. but hey, it seems to be a family run joint, and they were busy! really, people kept streaming in the whole time we were there, and everyone seemed happy about the food.
we both enjoyed our dishes (she had the pad thai, i had a calamari dish in a garlic sauce). and the prices were pretty good, too.
we'll definately go back. now, i just await the opening of the mediterranean joint.

This place is going to be good, I stopped in to look at the menu as I was walking by last night and they have one of my favorite Thai dish on the menu 'Pad Kee Mow' (Drunken Noodle).
There has not been a Thai restaurant in the Tower in I think over 10 years.
