It's like the first day of high school all over again

Starting over in a new city is a difficult thing to do. I have been in Fresno for 9 days now and I still can't belive I made the move. It happend so fast...well not really. I made the decision over 6 months ago to come here, but once the wheels started moving there was no getting off the train to Fresno. In one flail swoop I found a new place to live, quit my job and packed up my moving van. All the while shaking my head in disbleif. I didn't really know what I was going to do when I got here - all I knew is that I wanted to be closer to my boyfriend and couldn't stand the Bay Area. Have you ever had that feeling of being trapped - so trapped that if you stayed any longer you would suffocate and die of unhappiness? Well...I did...so I left.

So now I'm here and I'm happy.

I have to admit my first week in Fresno was pretty eventful. We went to Bon Jovi, Art Hop, the Rogue Festival and tonight we are going to some shin dig that the boyfriend was invited to. I can't believe how nice people are in Fresno - eveywhere I go people say hi and smile. I'm so not used to that yet.

Now I must venture out to find the good coffee shops, nail salons and bars. My boyfriend thinks he knows all the spots...but I doubt he knows them all (especially when it comes to nail salons). I have the week off before I start my new job on Monday and I am hoping to start exploring.

I am the new girl in town and I think I'm gonna like it here...

We're like the dead people

We're like the dead people in "The Sixth Sense" we only see what we want to see.

Lois Lane revisited

...dear lois

how are you doing?

as you can see, your intro has been answered...
It would seem, despite various stances as to how nice Fresno is,,, that there have been well wishing towards you, an at least one (well thought out) recommendation of a place to buy and enjoy a hot caffinated (or not) beverege...

--believe it or not all of the above posts were written by just one person... (who was having a bad day med-wise... not all the voices are in unison...)
--and still we, though in one pair of shoes, --are good people..

(okay, maybe it was different folks,,, but still, despite the gritty local color realism... you are welcomed with open arms, (and sour pusses...)

-have fun... Madonna is coming... world peace and an end to global warming cannot be far behind...

-best wishes...

Interesting

We are pretty nice around here, you just have to get to know people to see that. Where do you hang out, man?

aw, how sweet and delusional

aw, how sweet and delusional you are. fresno sucks, the people are generally assholes. the food's not bad but as far as i can tell the only place to get a good cup of coffee is Revue in Tower, however; you have to fight your way through a heavy layer of smug just to get through the door. can't believe you left the bay area for this shit town. good luck.

that new Fresno Smell

...hey kitten, made the leap from the opposite shore to here last Fall, (still trying to find a knish or decent souvlaki, but I find my way back to Manhattan at least once a year...)

People here really ARE that friendly... it's disarming, but don't sweat it, It's the real deal, not David Lynch...
Don't be afraid to go into business for yourself, either, (regardless of what you do,) A Fresno City License is pretty cheap, and folks pay well pretty good to be treated decently and have something done at a reasonable price.

Cheap advice: Grab some land or a house before they sell it all and things are too expensive, and find something large and hulking to drive until you get used to the fog... Lotsa girls with serious pickuptrucks out here, (It's a beautiful thang.)
---oh yeah, they tie up livestock for hoots and hollers out in clovis (coming up soon,) -and wear big hats... (Just smile and wave.)
