Let's Visit Burma/Myanmar

Burma.jpg

An annotated photographic exhibit presented by Helen Gigliotti. Ongoing, April 6 — May 31, 2006. Open during regular City Hall hours with receptions on Art Hop April 6 and May 4, 5-8 pm.

More than a century ago, Rudyard Kipling wrote: "This is Burma and it will be quite unlike any land you know about". A visit to Myanmar (formerly Burma) is a chance to glimpse into one of the last unspoiled, exotic areas of the world. Its incredible pagodas, temples and monasteries are elegant reminders of earlier ages, and its vibrant peoples and cultures are still deeply rooted in centuries-old traditions.

Despite its political problems, Burma remains a land of breathtaking beauty and charm only recently emerging into the modern world. The long-standing restriction on travel has left the country virtually untouched by modern western culture, and its impressive historical heritage remains largely intact.
