Admitting to a drug conviction on your college financial aid forms will get you a big fat donut. More than 2,000 California college students were denied federal financial aid because they admitted to prior drug convictions on their applications, according to information attained via a Freedom of Information Act request made by the Students for Sensible Drug Policy. According to a story in the Fresno Bee, loan officers do not investigate students' criminal records, but rely on a check box. Students convicted of other crimes, such as manslaughter, are not denied aid.
