HMONG VOICES Community Premiere
2nd Annual HMONG VOICES Community Premiere
Friday, May 12, 2006 * 6:30-8:30 PM
Tower Theater
FREE-admission video presentation
Presented by the Center for Multicultural Cooperation
Produced by youth volunteers, these NEW brief documentaries give an insight into the lives of local Hmong residents, through their own stories, told in their own words. These individual stories have been woven together in this feature length video collection, to: explore Hmong immigration; describe essential features of Hmong history and culture; document Hmong integration into the Central Valley; and highlight the stories of the youngest generation. Some highlights will include:
Nor Dao Vang - A Chao Fa Freedom Fighter describes how he used two sticks as crutches to make his escape through the communist-controlled mountains of Laos.
Tria Lee - A Hmong Shaman describes how he became a Shaman and his role as a Shaman in America.
Mai Lee Vue - An Academy for New Americans student reflects on transitioning to her new life in America.
This is a free event, and seating will be provided on a first-come-first-serve basis. Doors open at 6:00 PM, and early arrival is highly suggested to obtain seating. For more information, please contact Brandon Wright at (559) 355-7740 or hmongvoices@sbcglobal.net

The Community Technology Foundation of California helps underserved communities secure social justice, access, and equity through the application of information and communications technologies. The HMONG VOICES Project would not be possible without the additional sponsorship and support of the Whitney Foundation; the Fresno Unified School District Title III Office; the Harry C. Mitchell Trust; and Roosevelt High School.
