The Nat. Multiple Sclerosis Society
MS 150 Bike Tour 'Cruise to the Coast'
(150 miler: Fresno to Monterey)
The Nat. Multiple Sclerosis Society is having it's kick off 150 mile Bicycle tour this Saturday, May 13, through Sunday May 14th.
This past weekend we did a shakedown run from the starting point (Kerman,) and drove to Monterey (Ft. Ord,) and it was incredible.
The route was discovered -and has been enjoyed by touring motorcyclists, and has been re-engineered by noted area bicyclists, perfecting it into an unusual, beautiful, challenging and accessible route that will be a benchmark tour for years to come.
Developmental runs were met with smiles, both from the riders themselves —and all towns ridden through.
At this time, the course and tour maintain an intimate, friendly, and dedicated feel.
It is still a reasonably sized group of riders, the course has plenty of flats, twisties, and hills, --and will be fully escorted (as well as SAG'd) combining the best desolate and low-traveled (yet well maintained,) roads, with unobtrusive rolling and stationary support, for the entire course length, (read: great marking, rest stops where you need them, good food, travelling mechanics, -and practically no traffic whatsoever.)
Midway (overnight,) we've rented out an entire historic fairgrounds (Hollister,) with vintage horsetrack and facilities that provide room to roam, room to camp, -and close proximity (to Hollister: proper,) so that you can book hotel rooms if you wish not to camp. (shower facilities, food, covered areas for camping, locked storage for bicycles, and suitable space for RV's are provided at the fairgrounds,)
This is a serious cycling event, (75 miles per day,) --but it's a friendly pack, and there will be transport provided for cycles and cyclists if/when required.
The food being lined up, as well as giveaway goodies and such are all top shelf, -with many area restaurants, wineries, (etc.) contributing to the event.
Those who wish to be a part of this will have the benefit of being a part of a small, inaugural, yet well-run and well-planned fundraising event, ---that is truly focussed upon providing a good time and good support for the riders and volunteers. (-We are not talking PBJ's and carrot sticks here, folks, -this is going to be cool.)
