Excellent Fresno food blog She Spills the Beans clues us in to the May Eat Local Challenge. It's a challenge you can handle if you live in the breadbasket of the world. With farmers' markets and even vegetable home delivery, it's pretty easy to eat local in these parts.
Why eat local? According to the group calling themselves the Locavores, reasons to eat local include better taste, more nutrients, and more help for the local economy.

AntiMusick, you might want to check out the Fresno County Office of Tourism's list of farm stores and farmers' markets. It might not get to the level of the more changeable swap meets and flea markets, but there's a lot noted.
roadside fruits, nuts, vegetable produce stands
Don't forget the roadside stands, you can find some of the best and freshest strawberries at those stands.
What if there was a art hop like map here but of Farmers Markets and Roadside Stands, or even the produce at the swap meets or Flea Markets, then you would know were to get the freshet food, besides just growing it your self.
