Student films and one art-school emo kid
For your best bet on independent cinema this weekend, look no further than the first Fresno State Student Film Fest, at 6 p.m. TONIGHT, May 11, only.
Mass Communication and Journalism students will screen their semester film and TV projects, while the audience (that's you!) votes for Best TV News/Feature story, Best Narrative Film, Best Documentary, Best Music Video, Best Experimental Work, and more.
The only indie film to open at the multiplex this week in Fresno is Art School Confidential, a promising flick about an emo kid played by Max Minghella who finds that being disaffected and pouty in your hometown might make you unique, but maybe not so much in big-city art circles.
Art School Confidential is directed by Terry Zwigoff of Ghost World fame, and co-stars the sublime John Malkovich, among others. It plays at Clovis Town Center.
