What makes a venue worthy of being listed with the Fresno Bee under the gallery section of the calendar?
I recently was told that Artique's Walking Art Old Town Clovis was not considered a gallery, so therefore, the Fresno Bee was not going to list us in the gallery section. I told Alison, who is Deserie's boss, that Arthop has many venues that are not galleries and she said that Arthop was an event. I thought to myself, then why is it listed in galleries? I then brought to her attention that Come on to my House was not a gallery and that is when she said that she was not going to go through the whole list with me and repeated that the Fresno Bee was not going to list Artique's Walking Art Old Town Clovis under the gallery section and then proceeded to hang up. I was left with no logical answer. I thought that Fresno was wanting to become a creative city. For those of you who do not know, Artique is dedicated to providing artists low to no cost opportunities to show and sell their work. The merchants in Old Town agree to let the art hang on their walls at no cost to the artist. The artist agrees to not charge the merchants to have their art hanging on the walls of the businesses. The artist also agrees to giving 10% of their sales to Friends of the Clovis Library to help build a new library that will include a gallery. Artique's Walking Art Old Town Clovis has art in 21 businesses and 30 collaborating artists. There is the 168 connecting with Clovis. The art is available to view during business hours. A flyer can be picked up at Clovis Tourist Information and Visitors Center at 399 Clovis Ave Tarpey Depot. Old Town Clovis is a beautiful place to visit. I lived in Scottsdale, Arizona and when I moved here I chose to live in Clovis instead of Fresno because Clovis most reminded me of Scottsdale. I am dedicated to developing Old Town Clovis into an art destination such as Scottsdale. To me, this is quite a significant accoplishment for the art community and to ignore that is to say that Fresno is not really that interested in developing the arts in the surrounding communities. What do you say? Sincerely, Lea Adams.

Smugglers Inn Arthop
I am currently hanging at Smugglers Inn. I called numerous people to invite them to come for Arthop. I distributed flyers and even spoke with quite a few of the businesses that hosts Arthop in the Central and North areas about my Arthop at Smugglers Inn. Kitty Woods puts out an impressive array of appetizers for Arthop. The venue is very nice. The problem was that only a few people came. Chris Sorensen has suggested that Arthop be divided into four Thursdays each month in order to allow each area to get a chance. I think that this would be a great idea. What do you think?
Lea,
You could not find people less interested, or less knowledgable, about Fresno's cultural scene than Deserie and her boss, Alison. Your experience with that section of the paper is not unusual, and while it is no doubt disheartening, please don't judge Fresno's interest in a broad and fruitful art community by those who choose to remain blissfully ignorant.
Like Jarah said, promote through Famous! I'm sure The Fresno Bee recognizes how ridiculously inferior its calendar section is; we can only hope it will come to its senses someday soon and do something about it.
Artiques Walking Art Old Town Clovis
Thanks for taking the time to read and listen. I will keep sending you art information. If you got a couple of minutes here is another one. We, my husband and I are having to fight to keep our legal ingress and egress on our property. Why is this related to art? We planned on using the road to hang a sign that showed our studio being open. When people stop to look at our art then we can tell them about Artique. I have to fight the city and then also keep them on my side to help develop the art community. What do you think? Lea Adams
I say
Please continue to add Artique's events to our Calendar! Be sure to let us know if you are open for ArtHop and we'll add you to our ArtHop map.
