Looking for ghost stories in the Fresno area.
Submitted by Stormwysper on Thu, 06/01/2006 - 22:50.
I'm looking for ghost stories, urban legends, and similar stories in the Fresno area. Doesn't matter how obscure it is. My goal is to eventually write a book about the paranormal stories in the Fresno and surrounding areas. Thanks.

Heres my encounter with the supernatural
I used to live in the apartments (projects)in the westside of Fresno. On the corner of Tulare and Pottle st, down the street from a store called Louie Kees. I have moved out of there for 18 years, but I ususally stop by and notice that people move in and out of that apartment quick. By asking the neighbors.
My family resided there back when I was going thru 1st and 2nd grade. We never slept on the second floor for some reason. Maybe my parents knew something but they dont talk about it much. Everynite at a certain time, their would be a shadow of a lady walking down the stairs carrying a bucket of some sort. This shadow didnt walk down the stairs but stomped, cause you could here it. At the end of the steps, you would hear her poring something out of the bucket. Then she lets out a laugh and goes back up the stairs. Every morning you would find drips of a red liquid dripping from the ceiling onto the floor. I remember asking my mom what it was, and she said it was blood.
If you want to know where this is just find me on my myspace AznIceman. I'll give you the information.
Orbs?
I don't know if you still go on here but i;d love to see those pictures of cinema 123. i went there tonight at 230AM and saw nothing.
roosevelt
in the late 80's early 90's a girl was found murdered in one of the bathrooms.
Kearney Mansion
Iwas about 11 years old and my family used to go to kearney park on 4 th of july and do fireworks we used to park in front of the mansion (it was legal about 20 years ago) anyhow it was real late and my dad was packing stuff up while us kids waited in the backseat we were pretending to be asleep, I looked up and at the top of the stairs I saw a ghostly woman figure that was wearing a white dress which seemed to be glowing and I remember bright red lipstick that this woman was wearing, I nudged my sister I thought she was asleep I never talked about it till me & my sister were older then she admitted to me that she saw the same figure. After so many years I still wonder what I saw.
Memorial Auditorium
Fresno's Memorial Auditorium has a rehearsal hall that is supposedly haunted. I remember this as a kid in 80-81 when dancing with the Fresno Ballet. We were always freaked out yet excited to try to sneak into this room. (I have no idea who supposedly haunts it.) At that time the room was like an amphitheather with old balcony seats up top. Have no idea if it's even still there.
Thanks for both links. Actually my group is the one who did the Haunted Tower walk and we should be doing it next October again.
And I'm very familiar with the tour, in fact the two tour guides are in the same group as I am.
2 other ghost-y FF links
There are these other semi-lost ghost-esque FF stories. One is on the haunted house in Clovis:
http://www.fresnofamous.com/node/15351
The other is on a haunted tour in the Tower that happened last Halloween/October. I think they are doing it again next October. It was kind of interesting:

EEEEEEEK!
Central California Childrens Hospital
I helped move from the old Childrens Hospital to the new. I worked in admissions at nights. At that time I was the only employee at that time on that side of the new hospital. One night I was walking towards my desk & saw an Indian crouched in a fetal possition with an Indian Blanket on his back & long coarse black hair. I closed my eyes for 3 seconds opened them & he was still there. Then disappeared! I told my father who explained that is how they used to be barried.
Another night working alone, I needed supplies from storage in the upper floor of same side of hospital. I called Security for escort & to open the doors. While looking for supplies I "felt" Indian Children playing hide & seek, running from one piller to the other giggling. I was startled and told the security guard that I thought I'd stand over here by him, but didnt explain why.
Check out the Ghosts at 165 N. Clark
Its a "family planning" clinic.
Go there late at night and wait.
The spirts of the babys will come out to roam.
Theyy are harmless.
Thanks Stormwysper. It was no easy task. It took alot of research on find out who to contact, etc.
Good luck with the fire station Mick. I still can't believe Tom Weaver gave you guys permission to go in that. Every time I deal with some sort of govt. worker they blow me off. Hope you guys get some good evidence.
Raymond Fire Station
Soon my team and I will be investigating the old fire station to see what we can turn up or not. I have personal knowledge of the fire house and I know of a possible way to make contact with Homer. I will let you all know what if anything we find. Until then, if anyone would like us to investigate something we are always open to suggestions, or if you have a haunting we would love to look into it. We are a fairly new group but we don't lack experience. You can send me a message on here or at pacifichauntinginv@sbcglobal.net -Mick
Re: Pinedale
Well, I hear sort of three different angles on the place.
1. -though it's not discussed a whole bunch, yeah, the whole Japanese interment camp thing, (in fact, I was curious as to what the people who had heard the 'conversations,' in the Pinedale Store had heard (what language it was,)
-but they were not able to really discern the language,,, I WAS very definitely a conversation of at least two people, and it was loud enough that they shut down the alarm system and checked it out (and reversing the alarms is not an easy thing, and requires documentation, calls, etc.)
2. -Apparently the town itself is seriously old, and has been around for quite sometime (as a location,) -so there is (possibly,) quite the long history of folks with their trauma and such going back quite far.
3. (-And this goes more into more 'my neck of the woods,' metaphysically.)
The town has an real concern with poverty, substance abuse, and a lot of folks who are homeless (we get them in the store all the time, and they're in pretty rough shape.)
There's a sort of 'barometer,' to it.
--Often in environments where there is a high rate of emotional disturbance and substance abuse, you have spiritual activity and what is most commonly understood as folks being 'disturbed' by these things.
(Sorry, but I've found these entities to be more parasitic than beneficial, people who are 'housing,' one of these things are often seriously at risk, and often suffer emotinally/physically as a result.)
-though there are other instances I've been around where the 'ghosts,' were seen as playful or just mischevious (an example being the 'poltergeist,' sort of thing with the shoes, and breathing on the neck and muttering, doors flopping sort of thing.)
--Also, (kind of as an environmental thing,) some of the churches in the area are a bit more, well, dramatic and 'hands on,' (in terms of spiritual involvement,) and conversations with some of the folks in the area tend to show a bit more of a direct 'spiritual warfare,' involvement/interraction with their surroundings.
I've found in communities where there have been a lot of 'parapsychological,' activity, that there often is a pronounced depression, malaise ('downer') feel, often emot. concerns and substance abuse,
(as these things (the enteties,) tend to be (again) parasitic on people, they often affect peoples moods and 'drive them,' (for lack of a better phrase,) into destructive habits, sometimes in efforts to escape the agitation,
or
(sort of a 'flip side,')
I've seen in some really poor areas, there will be enteties around as some sort of 'spiritual liason,' ('angel,') presence, that folks think are 'empowering,' to be around, (sort of like they feel blessed by a lucky spirit.)
Back to the Pinedale/Interment camp thing?
I had a professor who was a 41 year man (missionary to Japan,) and we'd often discuss the varying cultures in terms of their spirituality, and one of the things we found quite startling were situations where (in Japan for example,) there were different shrines, -the most 'powerful,' in terms of a sense of spiritual manifestation and 'heaviness,' being a shrine to their war-dead.
It would be intersting to see the tie-in (if any,) regarding the activity and the interment center aspect.
I wonder if were you work is part of the old Japanese internment camp from the 40's (I think it was also Camp Pinedale). I've heard stories about where a company that was called Vendo had sightings of a Japanese woman.
What else have you heard about Pinedale?
so...
I happen to work at two very large stores up in the 'Riverpark' region.
One's up in Pinedale.
I happened to be rushing around getting stuff done, (pre-dinner making for the gf for valentines day,) in the one store (Pinedale,) when I was taking a large cardboard box to the back (to the warehouse.)
This involved taking the box through a set of 'swinging' double doors.
No problem, walked the box through, went through the doors, walked further back to back of warehouse, put box down, and walked back towards the double doors. You basically have to cross from one end of the store at the back to the other.
(Note: the Doors had stopped swinging shortly after I walked through them with the box and were still once I had come through them within a few steps.)
As put the box down, turned, and came back in the direction from which I came,
I looked to the double doors, (which were still,) I saw them both open towards me, as if somebody was getting ready to walk through them.
(I was about ten feet from the doors, walking towards them.)
Nobody came through the doors.
--Since I was mid stride and walking towards the doors, I figured,
'..huh, somebody changed their mind and hit the doors and went the other way.
(as I was so close to the doors, (closing in on five feet and less,) I walked up to them walked through,
-and nobody was on the other side.
--Note: the doors have clear plastic panels by which you can see through them as well,
-I saw nobody there, nobody going down the aisle, etc..
I walked down the immed. aisles,
into the shop,
-basically checked and walked to all visual vantage points where I'd have to see someone walking away (or hiding, as if they were playing a trick or something,)
-Nobody was in that section of the store,
(no customers, no staff, -and they were short staffed.)
Basically? In a store where there is no 'breeze,' or depressurization (due to AC/Heat vents, etc.)
The doors opened as if hit by something large,
(which, to be honest? I didn't hear anything 'hit,' them either (like hands, a container of some kind, any of that.)
They just both flopped open and closed on their own.
I later told the managers (up front as I was leaving,) the whole story and asked them if they thought it was weird.
'...Well, not really, I mean, we've had stuff come down off of boxes, and there have been a few times where we've been closing down the store, (having set all alarms and such,) and we heard conversations over in the shoe section (so much that we disarmed the alarms, thinking we had people in the store, (still,) ---but found, upon checking nobody there.'
'...We hear strange sounds in here all the time.'
But the real store of interest, so I'm told is the one across the street.
'Oh yeah, when I worked across the street, (Riverpark Store,) we'd have stuff come down off the shelves all the time, that place is wild.
-like literally, one time me and (another employee,) were putting away shoes in the shoe deparment, and one of the boxes next to us just pulled out, the shoe picked up and then just dropped next to us,
-and one time, I was also (fixing shoes,) and I felt somebody breathing on my neck and they were mumbling something to me,
I turned around and nobody was there, THAT was a trip.'
What is kind of strange?
I've been in several environments where there have been manifestations (historic areas, noted 'haunted,' documented sites, (have done exorcisms, etc.) and usually can tell when something is around.
The deal with the doors opening and closing on their own?
I full expected somebody to be there, and it was only after the whole thing happened that I realized what actualy DID happen.
-no cold spots
-no weird feelings
-no sense of 'somebody being there.'
nothing.
I do hear things about Pinedale, but consider a lot of it to be just local legend.
Still, this did actually just happen yesterday afternoon.
want to see something really scary?
PUBLIC MEETING NOTICE
Fulton Mall Water Feature
February 13, 2007
Location: Fresno City Hall Council Chambers
2600 Fresno Street, Fresno, CA 93721
Time: 5:00 p.m.
Special Guest: Danno Glanz, Principal, Calthorpe
City of Fresno: Jon Ruiz, Assistant City Manager
Kelly Riddle, Economic Development Coordinator
Jeff Eben, Deputy Mayor
The City of Fresno is exploring the possibility of a dramatic new water feature for the downtown, a ‘linear fountain’ that would help to revitalize the Fulton Mall, connect the City’s important new redevelopment projects, and generally reinvigorate the heart of the community. The planning and design of this downtown water feature will be an exciting challenge and opportunity. The ‘linear fountain’ will need to satisfy a number of important criteria: it will need to be interactive and fun; attractive to kids and families; accommodating of existing conditions on the Fulton Mall; cost effective; and environmentally friendly. It should celebrate the role of water in Fresno’s history and deepen the community’s appreciation of Fresno’s unique culture and setting. But, most of all, a new downtown water feature should bring people back to the center to rediscover the heart of the City! Interested? Come hear about the project and give us your ideas, thoughts, concerns.
Please share the stories. None of those sound familiar and would love to hear them.
I also noticed in the Bee today that there was a story on the CDF station up in Raymond. Even mentioned my group leader, Jackie. Was a good story.
Visalia's Mooney Mansion & Mooney Auto Theatre Drive-In -HAUNTED
The family for which Mooney Boulevard and Mooney's Grove are namesteaded had a house in Visalia on Court Street that was known to be haunted.
In the 80's the then current owner turned the mansion into a multiple room boarding house. Nothing more than 9 bedrooms with common bath and kitchen facilities. He had turned one of the upstairs bedrooms into a billiards room complete with a very ornate antique table. Downstairs in the main foyer, the owner also had an antique juke box that played an equally antique selection of 78 rpm records.
On balmy Spring and Summer evenings for many years, on seemingly random nights, multiple loud THUMPS would be heard from the upstairs billiard room either right before, or just after midnight. The habitants of the house would go upstairs to the room, open the door and find pool balls and cue sticks on the floor. The pool balls were previously placed into the wall rack with the cues, or in the table pockets themselves. Once the balls were said to have been still moving when people arrived to investigate.
The same day, always, before dawn the next morning, the antique juke box would then fire up some random selection from it's stacks of wax rack. It got so bad, that the owner started to leave the juke box unplugged during the Spring/Summer months.
The owner of the house was a bit of a historian and successful photographer/author. After some research and talking to other local Tulare County Historians like Gist and Hammond, he discovered that sometime in the early 1930's, a fair-haired 6 year old girl had died from some lung malady in one of the upstairs bedrooms.
Although she wasn't a member of the Mooney Family, it is thought she might have been the daughter of SF socialites who had come to Vislaia to visit the Mooneys, who were considered rather high society in that part of the Valley. Her name was April Mc-something. After her death, her body was said to have been buried on the property somewhere, but no one was ever able to find doccumentation of the burial.
After almost 15 years, the ghostly activities ceased in the 1990's after the property was sold numerous times and the insides of the Mooney Mansion were gutted for refurbishment.
During the teardown, a dusty rag doll was discovered inside the lath and plaster walls of the billiard room. The doll was given to the Tulare Historical Society and was subsequently dated as being made sometimes in the 1920's at a small storefront factory in the SF Bay area. Last I heard, the doll is still on display in the Tulare County Historical Museum... located in Mooney's Grove Park... on Mooney Bouldvard.

Concerning the child ghosts at the Mooney Cinema(?)... I'm an not sure if you meant the Mooney Auto Theatre or another cinema venue.
The Mooney Auto Theatre S adjacent to Mooney's Grove (yes, on Mooney Boulevard) was known to have a spectre of a red haired boy dressed only in jean overalls cruise the back of the lot as the films played.
I know this because;
1. I was told the story by Mr. Weber who managed the theatre in the mid to late 1970's.
2. I was told the story again months later by Patty, the Snack Bar Manager and her husband (they lived in Ivanhoe or Woodlake).
3. I was told the story by Patty's sister months after that (she attended Woodlake HS).
4. As a kid working at that theatre I saw it myself twice.
I remember that first particular night well; the Jeff Bridges/Jessica Lange version of "King Kong" was the main feature that evening. I also remember that the lot was only about 1/2 full for that SAT evening. It was very close to 1am, so the film was almost over
I saw a shadowy small boy chattering to someone all along the 12 ft wood and steel rear barrier fence of the theater parking lot. He was in the jean overalls and was barefoot. This struck me as being rather stranger than strange, because it was downright cold that October evening as I was bundled up.
I shined my flashlight towards the boy and called out "hey you!". In a flick of an eyelash he seemingly disappeared. I thought he might have just hopped under the fence to escape, but I could find no evidence of his egress.
"Was that, _HIM_?" I asked myself.
I told Mr. Weber, Patty, her husband and Patty's sister what I saw that evening. They all dismissed it as something quite expected and normal.
The next Spring found me again working PT at the theater, mostly working inside the snack bar. A patron came in complaining that someone was throwing dirt clods at their car during the film.
Things were slow inside the snack bar, so I grabbed a flashlight and headed out. The patron pointed in the direction the clods were coming from.
I walked over, - to the rear of the lot along the fenced rear barrier - and saw the boy again in the shadows walking away from me. This time I kept quiet and swiftly ran up behind him.
When I got about 20 ft from him, I turned on the flashlight to see a very dirty faced boy about 10 years old with red stringy hair wearing only jean overalls quickly taking a glance over his shoulder - and then he was gone... like he just all of a sudden turned invisible. "Shit!-Shit!-Shit!" was all I could say to myself as I nervously walked back to the snack bar.
Again I told Patty what I saw. She just shrugged her shoulders and quipped "It won't be the last time".
I left that job for a better one at the end of the Summer of 77, I never heard about the red haired ghost boy again... but I'm sure someone else had seen him since.
-----------------
I have other ghost stories or legends that cover the areas of Tulare, Kings and Fresno Counties. Vassar Drive Murder House, Phantom Cows, Ma Murphy, The Lights - and Caves - of Rocky Hill near Exiter and the Phantom Boats of Sequoia, Millerton, Kaweah and Huntington Lakes, just to name a few.
Oh definitely check out the Sierra Sky Ranch in Oakhurst if you haven't already. It really isn't spooky, unless you spook easily, but lots of stuff goes on there. Lights go on in kitchen after everybody is gone and the area locked up, footsteps heard going up stairs to the loft, orbs caught on cameras and other energies which blurr photos. Said to be haunted by at least 5 different spirits. Was a tuberculosis sanitarium in the 30s and a nurse and two children died from it, and a cowboy who committed suicide there.
no there is nothing going on there ive lokked into it ive been there and its just a home where people lived in nothing is haunting about it.
well i've been to the muex home ive explored it and i would have to say its a just another U.L so that place is done with.
Roosevelt, Friant Road, Lost Lake, Avocado Lake
My dad confirms he had heard noises from the east restroom at Roosevelt as well. He's a custodian for FUSD and was working there one summer and when he heard the noises.
My in laws have said they have seen a man walking along Friant Road. This is usually early in the morning around 3:00am when they're coming back from Table Mountain to Fresno. They pass him, then u-turn to see what's up, but he disappears after they turn back. For those who don't know, Friant Road has been site of many vehicle accidents.
I've also heard stories of ghosts at Lost Lake and Avocado Lake.
umm..i got one!
i dont know if you know already, but, at my old high scholl, Roosevelt High School..that place is haunted!
serious!
2 boys died there!
one kid committed suicide in the restroom of East Hall, and i thought i even expireinced it my self...
i remeber when i was hanging out with my Ex-girlfriend by that rest room, and it was like ...about 7..at night..
when i haerd screeching, and moaning in that restroom..
i thought it was just me, but, it wasnot, i heared something...
and another time, i went skating there, and it was like 9 at night, and i was jumping the fence with my friend, and he jumped it first, and i was to tired to jump it, so, i walked over by that restroom, but outside, to grab a garbage can, and i heared a loud sound, like someone kicking the door...
it was f@%$ing crazy!!!
okay, and thats all!
and i guess another kid died durinf a performance in the audotorium!
hi
My mother was an LVN and knew many in the nursing community who worked the estate when it was a nursing home, there were so many real spook experience by fellow nurses that she made me promise never to go near it and she refused to work the facility. She also worked at Fresno Community Hospital for many years as a night nurse on the 6th floor rehab.
Tulare General Hospital-No Joke
My mom used to be an ER nurse at the hospital back in the 70's, and she has heard many a story, of strange things. One that stands out is of a white cross that appeared in the window, in the old vitals area. No sun was was able to reach that window to produce the cross, and caused a stir. After a few days it vanished.
Well she eventually quit working, but later returned to work at the then now clinic as a case management worker. She was assigned to a room on the second floor. That is where they had the ICU and Surgery Rooms. They workers who worked near the stairs would leave stair door ajar. One instance a figure appeared and was peering at people working on the second floor. When they noticed it, they went to check the door and no one was there. No sounds of anyone walking away.
It's all true, I used to spend many a days and nights waiting for my mother to get off work and I often felt a feeling of loneliness and then I would feel as if someone was staring at me.
Even the cleaning crew refuses to work past 9:00pm and there is not way security will enter the building after a certain hour.
That's just the tip of the ice berg of the stories at circulate among the older workers.
Ghost Haunts Oklahoma Car Impound Lot - video from Aug 23, 2002
It's one of the better videos out there...
http://www.ghostvideos.ws/ghost-videos/latest-ghost-videos/ghost-haunts-...
but more than likely what is seen on the video is an optical illusion caused by reflections similar to the classic peppers ghost illusion.
it's all Smoke and Mirrors, if it's not Science.
is it horrible?
Well me my mom sisters and aunts were all telling ghost stories and my aunt said that when she was waiting for her friends to come pick her up so they could run around town. well she heard a car coming so she was climbing out the window when this wolf was running towards her, well she thout it was a regular dog so she tried to make it go away but when it came up to the window she saw what it was and she got scared. so she stayed back in the house. then she fell asleep so when she woke up an hour later she looked out the window and she saw head lights so again she tried to crawl out the window but the wolf came back she stayed awake for about 20 minutes and then she looked back out the window and the wolf was still there the wolf was just staring at her and then a tear rolled down his face. Then she begin to pray and said some words used for praying. Suddenly the worlf said:" Go to http://www.horsedate.com. I will let you go." LOL
AndleBerry Estate; Scream If You Can
This Place is very much haunted. Me and a few friends went one night(Oct.19th, 2007) with some friends for a birthday celebration thing. Me and my friend, can sense strange things sometime. so we decided to take a tour with the owner of the house, Todd Wolfe. He was a very friendly guy, talked to us about each room, and showed us around. But there are somethings that you just can't explain. if you want to get a hold of this guy, it seems like you have his number already, but he's doing Haunted Ghoust Tours, and is turning the Estate into a Hotel. Go check it out and maybe you'll get lucky to stay in Mary's room!!!
I was always told that the old bakery (? I don't know if that's what it used to be) on Clovis Avenue between Ashland and Dakota was haunted. It's a creepy place to be a night.
The Muex Muesem
I've read about it some, apppernately it has spirits galore,
its mainly haunted by the Muex family though.
Theres is also the Sandlady,(This ones wierd)on Pindale ave in Fresno,CA the Sandlady can be seen at night, she throws sand into peoples eyes for no apperent reason and then when the rub the sand out of their eyes she dissapears, she's believed to look like an old spanish lady carrying a small tote bag.
Theres plenty more,I'll just number them.
1)Adorable Poodle Salon - This shop had a lot of poltergeist activity when she was there. Large heavy plants that needed two people to move would be moved when the owner arrived in the morning, when no one but her had access to the shop. She hired a young woman to wash dogs for her and the "entity" really took a liking to her. One day my mother was taking a break when she noticed this girl working on a dog and periodically brushing her hand away from her neck as if shooing away a pesty fly. The owner watched for a while as she continued to do this, not seeing anything there, when suddenly, quite annoyed, this girl said, "would you please knock it off?!" The owner asked her what was wrong and she replied, "Your damn ghost won't stop kissing me on the neck!" It stopped kissing her after that. The owner reported cold spots, lights on and off, doors opening and closing by themselves and a general feeling of being watched when alone in the building.
2)Raymond - There is a haunted (seasonal) fire station in the town. The station was closed and lights came on inside. A door that would constantly come open.
3)San Juaquin River - This ghost pretty much have been sighted along the whole river but mostly the highway 99 overpass by Herndon. A lady and her 2 kids were swimming in the river back in the 1950's when her kids were kidnapped. Not too long after she died of allegedly died of sadness. Now her brightly white colored spirit can be seen walking on top of the water in the river calling for her children. Some say she has the voice of the wind and the Mexican American community named her the IBRONA.
4)St. John Hall - The basement is haunted By A Nun, who appears a numerous of times
5)the Vendo Company - this is a building that has existed for at least one hundred years. Before it was Vendo it was Pinedale military base and before that it was a lumberyard and in the beginning it was Japanese concentration camp. In the mezzanine you get the feeling of someone putting their hands on you grabbing you ankles, near the cooling tower a Japanese woman with half of her face rotted off has been seen sitting on a green bench that is by a plant entrance, the main building is where they were held and tortured. In what now is receiving is were they were processed and killed there are many body's buried in the ground that were never removed. Sounds of choking whispering calling out for help. there is a bathroom up stairs that a Vendo employee hung himself in 7 years ago is still there as a ghost till this day no one will use the restroom.
6)Roosevelt High School - This school has 2 ghost, one boy committed suicide in the boys restroom in the east hall. Then a boy felt to his death in the auditorium while doing a presentation. These two boys haunt the school
7)Tyler Street House - This modest home has been the seen of terrifying poltergeist activity since the mid 80's and continues to this day. This house has had over 22 different occupants since the phenomenon started. Some have reported seeing red eyes peer out through closets and darkened bedrooms. Objects fly off countertops and there has been a bludgeoned body of a cat has been found time after time in the upstairs closet found by each resident that has lived here even if they do not own a cat or any animals.
Thats all of them that I know.
Fresno Ghosts
The 6th Floor of Valley Medical Center/University Medical Center - Labor & Delivery. L& D moved out a few years ago, and UMC closed last spring, but some parts of the building are still open.
1) Employees used to say that a nurse who worked in the nursery for many years could be seen rocking babies....
2) They say that in the old infant morgue, where they used to take premature or deformed babies to die (sometimes it took several hours) that sometimes you can still hear their screams...
I had always heard that the area near Herndon and 99 was haunted. I went out there and never got any weird feelings. There was also a story about a ghost at the Piccadilly Inn University, across from Fresno State. 369 or 379 I thought. I always thought it was a joke, though... nothing weird ever happened to me there (except for the occasional TV being left on at a louder-than-a-howitzer level, but that isn't exactly super rare).
Minkler Ghost
I live a bit past Centerville, and I've always heard from the locals around here that there is a female ghost that haunts the Minkler bridge off of 180. Never heard she was angry, but she's there and you can see her different times of the year. I have never seen her, nor felt her presence, but then again, I don't hang out on the side of the freeway but the bridge.
Haunted house in Fresno
I once looked at a house on Huntington Blvd in the mid 70's it had been owned by a Bishop who had died there. When I looked at it he had not been dead for very long. There was a huge mirror over the stair case that was still covered in blank bunting. The house was huge and probably built in the 20's. It had it's own chapel and the bishops coat of arms on the sliding glass walls that closed off the living room. I was in the house 2-3 times and every time and every person I was with noticed the severe cold spot that existed in the upstairs hallway between two of the bedrooms. The house really gave me the creeps.
Californian
I've heard a few stories about the California, always wanted to get in there but never could. Thanks for the story.
And Jade, I've given up on the book idea for right now. Just too much stuff going on right now. Still I'd love to hear any other stories you might have. Either here or send me a private message. I don't know much on Kerman, besides the high school being haunted and something about a woman in white haunting a bridge. Though I imagine the latter is the typcial "lady in mourning" folklore story.
My Favorite Ghost
Is the little girl that plays with her jacks on the back stair of the Californian at the back of the lobby by the womans bathroom downtown.
It was always funny when a woman would go use the bathroom then tell us they heard a little girl laugh and heard metal clinking and a ball bouncing but they could not find any little girl around.

Ghost in Fresno
Stormwysper (love that name),
I found this thread so interesting.....I haven't been back to Fresno for some fifty years of so.....no one has mentioned the Winchester House. Is it still there? Of course it was haunted! I am curious to know if it still exists.
MAD
oooops! I just realized that the Winchester House is NOT in Fresno....it is in San Jose, CA....sorrrrry! Ha!..no wonder no one has mentioned it! Yes, I have been away too long!

writer? Former employer is in insurance business. Often out of the office, returning with applications to complete and sign. Said he forgot to get signautres but had permission to forge. Taught me to trace on window so I could forge too!
When I quit, I had suspicions and began to research. Turns out, he is part of a huge real estate theft operation; people missing; ID theft; forgeries (verified.)
If I was forging names of dead people, does that make me a "ghost writer?"
(Yes it continues, but no help.)
$ 4 a ghost show
Do your ghosts perform for money?
I guess what ever it takes for entertainment and making some cash.
You should open your place up as a bar and restaurant and model it similar to the Moss Beach Distillery, with a Pepper's ghost trick.

It looks as thought they plan to re-open the Hilton as a Holiday Inn by the end of the year... Here's the article:

Visalia Theater
Actually, the theater has been closed for about 10 years. There is a mall in front of it though and I believe the owners are the same. I don't know anyone who works there now though. Sorry about that. But, the mall is the Sequoia Mall on Mooney Blvd. I believe the theater is called Cinima 1-2-3.
Fresno Paranormal Meetup
Another group that I know has started a Fresno Paranormal Meetup and I thought I would post it here. I attended the first meeting and there was a great turnout. The next meeting is on March 24. Here's the link in case anyone is interested. http://paranormal.meetup.com/436/
Sarah, do you know anyone who still works at the Visalia theater? I'd love to get in there and talk to someone.
Visalia Ghosts
Hi, I think someone may have mentioned the old cinima on Mooney...I think. Anyway, that place is sooo haunted! My sister and I decided to go there one night and take pictures to see if anything would come out. The pictures are scary! There are so many orbs, you can't even count them all. Some are huge and light, some were really tiny but very bright, some were red! It was crazy. The reason we went there in the first place was because of all the stories that we heard. I used to work at the mall in front of the cinima and I remember several times customers would ask me to call security because there were "unattended" children playing in front of the theater. The description of the children was always the same. A little red haired boy and a little girl playing on the sidewalk in front of the theater. Sometimes employees at the mall claimed to see the girl walking around among shoppers. Other times balloons would be seen floating down from the ceiling and hovering just a foot or so above the floor.(This is one that I actually saw once.)I do still have those pictures, and trust me they are very real! I would be happy to share them with anyone who wishes to see them. Just be sure in the subject line to put "orbs" Ok?
As much as I would love to retort to your accusations on plagiarism, I will decline in hopes of keeping this thread in the area of civility. But I will say my original intentions were to fully research the stories that were posted here (by choice of the poster I may ad) and only if their paranormal history was accurate would then I use it. So I'm not really sure how I am plagiarizing someone when they told me a story they probably heard from someone else (since that's how most of these are passed on anyways). But I opted out of the book ideas I am just not that good of a writer. Besides I enjoy researching and investigating places around the valley a lot more.
But I do thank you for voicing your concerns over the possibility of my plagiarizing off of people here. I always thought that plagiarizing was stealing verbatim something that someone else has written and calling it your own, not researching a story told to you on a public forum. Thank you for clearing that up for me.
On a lighter note, I was at the Springville Inn this weekend in Tulare County. That place has a long haunted history.
plagiarism
pretty bold of you to ask me to write your book for you so that you can get rich off the sweat of my brow.
incidentally, i'm looking for people to become a doctors and send me their paychecks.
Fresno High School
fresno high school is haunted, me and my buddy use to try and record EVP over there at night but never got anything good because of the damn train and traffic noises BUT we have seen really weird stuff there like a floating orb of light that "ran" up some stairs, moving cold spots, and my buddy was tapped on his leg while videotaping near the library door "sounds weird but true" you can hear it on the tape then he freaked out and the reason we started ghosthunting there cause we heard that a boy commited suicide there a long time ago and that a random classroom gets a phonecall everyday with nobody on it, well i have no idea if those rumurs are true or not but i think this place has paranormal activity
ghosts
Hi..I produced a series on 47 many years ago re: local ghosts. The Millerton Courthouse was one location, people working there would hear footsteps etc. No luck at the Mexu home. St Johns had a ghostly nun. And there was a great couple who had converted a former convent into a home..lots of interesting things kept popping up there. The series ran in the late 80's ..I don't even know if the same people live in that home.
I found that the majority of the people who had a real problem didn't want to talk about it..they were worried it would make things worse.
