Awesome show last Saturday in Visalia, we hear.
The Thermals live up to the hype and packed Howie's pizza like nobody's business. Listen for yourself:
The Thermals, "God & Country"The Thermals, "How We Know"Since yesterday's non-Fresno centric post was rejected violently by the masses, we thought we'd spend some time on really boring city planning issues today. Sunday's big Fresno Bee article outlined plans for a
new entertainment complex on Cedar and Dakota. Years in the works, the development was granted a $5 million loan guarantee from the city to enable bank financing at a decent rate. While we're not huge fans of the city guaranteeing private loans, the worst case scenario in this development is that the city ends up with a whole bunch of sports fields in the "inner city." Hardly seems like a risk when you compare it to all the scary scenarios of Measure Z, the zoo tax.
While the city
ponders how it's going to use the money it no longer has to spend on the zoo, more details are coming out about the board in charge of running the zoo. If you pick up a copy of this month's
Community Alliance (which looks awesome in its new tabloid format), you can read a story by Kevin Hall that explains how the city and county get a one-time shot at appointing board members, but are shut out after that. The non-profit board isn't required to allow county supervisors, let alone the general public, to their meetings or discussions.
Plus the
Fresno version of the
NYT Magazine Christian business story has arrived!
