Need a '24' fix?
If CBS' Tuesday Night Book Club isn't providing the kind of titillation you desire, and if you are already jonesing for a real jot of media-induced adrenalin from "24" but can't wait until next season, where do you go for a fix?
Burger King! Huh?
As it turns out, The King is exclusive advertiser for a site where you can download episodes of the Fox Series, "24," starring agent Jack Bauer.
The place? News Corp.'s Myspace, if you can find it. After a few minutes of noodling and Googling, I found www.myspace.com/burgerking (Did you know you can add the King as your friend on Myspace? He can stalk you in cyberspace too!), and then a link to to the actual download site.
Wow! No link from the Myspace homepage, no obvious results using search; you'd almost think you were trying to help CTU discover who was behind the plot to release nerve gas in L.A., or something.
You can download a free episode from the recently concluded season, plus all the others for $1.99 an episode. That's $46 for all the episodes. The DVDs, which aren't available yet, would retail for around $60. Not a bad deal if you are a hardcore "24" fan.
It will, however, take a while to download. About 20 minutes on my 1.5mbps connection. And I'm guessing you aren't supposed to make a DVD copy because of the Windows DRM restrictions. But, there are ways around that. I guess I shouldn't say how, as I'd rather not risk being jailed or fined.
