I would like to see a graphical calendar with a picture of the entire month, and events listed by day. The user should also be able to select future months. If there are too many things happening on a month, perhaps an ellipses can be used to indicate that there is more info. Registered users should have a calendar permission that will enable them to update the calendar at will. Maybe if someone selects an event, a notification can be configured to send them an e-mail reminder or SMS message when it is taking place.

I have been looking all over

It would be great if the forum and the events calendar were a little more connected, so people can comment on events, etc. Maybe you can steal some of the technology from Upcoming.org?
That said, I think it's important for you guys to have control over the main event calendar. You guys are the masters, and people look to you to recommend the good stuff.
