Fresno gaining tech jobs

In a new report, California Cybercities 2006, the hi-tech trade group AeA says Fresno gained 200 net new tech workers in 2004. Fresno's tech industry payroll grew 32% from 1999 to 2004, for a total of $266 million, according to the report

Fresno had 324 companies identified as high tech in 2004 and 5,064 jobs in the sector. Compare that to the 215,000 tech workers in Silicon Valley, and Fresno still has a way to go. The (Silicon) Valley lost over 10,000 tech jobs in 2004, while Fresno added 200. Sacramento leads the (Central) Valley in tech employement, adding 1,300 new tech jobs in 2004. The average tech annual wage for a worker in Fresno was $52,496, compared to the county average of $29,105.

The average high-tech annual wage in Silicon Valley was $126,700.
