Pontifications of a Cookie

Included in my blogs is a free word of the day. Today's comes in the title, and it's "pontificate." I had to look it up, and so will you.

I've been thinking recently about what sort of business i'd start in fresno if i were up to it. Then, I was reading the piece about the Grooves night at Samba, and it hit me. But first, my thoughts on Groove night: it sounds cool, but belly dancers? I don't want to be perceived as a hick, but isn't it hard to have a good time with your friends when people are belly dancing in your line of sight? I get that some people are into it, but it seems that in the context of DJs and hanging out at Samba that the belly dancers would only get in the way, as well as make me uncomfortable. It's probably just not my scene.

The above described thought process, which is the abridged version - for those desirous of the unabridged you'll have to check amazon - led me to consider what type of hang out i'd create in fresno, and I recalled the most wonderful little spot I recently discovered in San Francisco called the Hidden Vine, and it was my first taste of a conversation/wine bar. It was decorated like what you might imagine an old pub in oxford looking like. The music was quality, eclectic, and, for the purpose of being able to converse with mates, played at the choicest volume (i.e., almost quiet, but not really). Further, the bar served a huge variety of wine, and the tenders were very knowledgeable and helpful in selecting one's drink(s). Also, they served a delicious assortment of fine cheeses and, for those who want something non-alcoholic, the best grape juice.

I think the most charming feature of it all - although it was not independent of the other features, some of which i've mentioned - was that it was underground. You had to walk downstairs to get to the sitting area, and it gave such a feeling of coziness.

What do you lot think? How would such a place fare in fresno? I have to think that this website's audience is particularly apt to conversation. Is there already a place like this here?

Anyway, not only did you get a word of the day, but you also got travel advice, making my blog informative as well as pleasing to the eye.

some nights there are

i think some nights @ landmark really fit into what you're wanting. good music, at a decent volume, plus a nice size crowd, and bar staff that generally know there stuff.

other nights, it can get a little loud, and it's difficult to sit inside and talk.
