A hot, dark, hell

The high today is forecast to be 111, which is better than 112. That might be small comfort to the 12,000 who lost power and precious, life-giving AC yesterday. Did you lose power? How did you cope?

For those without better options, the city provides the following "cooling centers" (it's all part of Operation Cool Down):

Open daily from noon to 10 p.m. (or later if necessary)
Melody, 5935 E. Shields — Shields/Fowler
Pinedale, 7170 N. San Pablo — Herndon/Blackstone
Highway City, 5140 N. State — State/Shaw
Holmes, 212 S. First — First/Tulare

Open daily from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. (or later if necessary)
Ted C. Wills Community Center, 770 N. San Pablo — Olive/Belmont
Mosqueda Community Center, 4670 E. Butler — Maple/Butler
Sunset Center, 1345 W. Eden — West/Eden
Hinton Community Center, 2385 S. Fairview — Fairview/Church
Frank H. Ball, 760 Mayor — "A"/Inyo
Ivy Center, 1350 E. Annadale — Annadale/Elm
Romain, 745 N. First — First/Belmont

If you need transporation to these places, call 621-CITY or 621-HEAT.

I feel sorry for the people

I feel sorry for the people who have tempertures in the mid 90's and no airconditioning, but humidity, and lots of cement. Like Vienna, Budapest, or N.Y.C.

Rain

and just think those fools that complained about the rain earlier this year... I was enjoying the rain because coming summer I knew it would be very hot as it always is, but I did not expect it to be record hot.

I guess they don't count

I guess they don't count Death Valley at 126 degrees becuase there is so little population? I thnk you could pick just about anywhere in the valley, but, again Fresno is the most populous region in the valley. It is real hot here this week, so , not a bad choice I guess.

and from less Republican shores

...the folks back home just phoned up and said that the NY News Channels claimed that Fresno California, (here?)
was listed as 'the hottest area of the nation,' within the past couple of days...

It is All Relative

I was at the Giants game Sunday and it was in the mid 80's but I was glad the shade was there. While visiting in-laws in San Jose on the way home, it was 102 there and they were dying from the heat. It seemed to us just slightly warm in comparison to what Fresno is experiencing right now, but, 102 would have been horrendous back in May. It is all what you are used to and for how long . Now if the AC goes out...
