Congress continues anti-Internet crusade

DOPA, the Deleting Online Predators Act, passed the house by a 410-15 vote. Ostensibly drafted to curtail sexual predators on MySpace, DOPA would block a wide range of web sites in schools, libraries, and other places that receive federal funding.

The legislation is sweeping. It would block access to all sites that allow users to create a profile and communicate with strangers. That means no Famous for you in a public space. Adults will have to ask permission from a librarian to access such sites. It could also block news sites, photo sites, shopping sites, and any site that allows you to create a profile and leave a comment or send a message.

Along with the attracts on net neutrality, congress is doing its best to stifle and retard the Internet. These laws seem to be written by people who don't use the Internet. That all but 15 elected representative voted for this bill tells us they don't understand the Internet either, and aren't qualified to regulate it.

Go ahead and tell Radanovich and Costa why you think they made a retarded vote. Maybe now is a good time to tell Radanovich challenger TJ Cox that is an issue he should care about.

how big is the national Debt?

Considering the odd accounting rules Congress passed for itself (reported in todays' BEE) we maybe sitting on enough red ink to drown. Think hyperinflation ala Argentina... $100 loaf of bread.

Congress ruins everything fun

what the hell is wrong with congress ... they need to give back more to the people who vote for them, than take away things...

Here is one question to ask every elected official, Will they get more Libraries or expand existing Libraries in their districts? they should answer with a quick 'Yes!', if they don't say Yes before for anything else then don't vote for them... Free Libraries are really more important than schools since anyone can go to the Library and learn something.

With that said... why is their not a Library in the Tower District? I'd like to see one at that vacant corner of Palm and Olive. I'd also like to see the Gillis Branch Library rebuilt where that Church was at Fruit and Dakota, where they have plans for a school... I don't get it there are two elementary schools with in a mile from there... are they that over crowded?
