Who needs education anyway?

File under: Are you serious? State leaders say the California high school drop out rate is somewhere between 50 and 87%.

The solution is clear: convert 50 to 87% of California high schools into prisons. Problems solved!

hmm love to see where there numbers are coming from.

I took a test at the time called California high school equivalance(sp) test. Recieved my diploma and no longer had to attend school. Am I counted as a drop out because I did not go through the channels available for me?

My wife recieved her diploma after finishing up her school credits in coninuation classes between our first and second child. Is she considered a dropout?

Jarah you make a fine point the money invested in prisons will never stop. On the other hand the money invested in school seems to be the exact same problem.

My solution? Charter schools have been attempted not working. Have corporations set up video games to train people for jobs within there company. Vocational learning in a new era. Most all tasks can be learned long as there is tactical/audio/feedback. Computer games that teach skills would be low risk enviornment. (sp)Earning a good paying job would be the eventual reward. Companies could build loyalty, sign the winners up for a 2 year contract with that company.

It could work and would bypass the "higher learning" elitists.

Just my 2 cents.
