Not sure if kosher per this site, but i believe it's pertinent to Fresno culture. i heard in the past couple days that a pedicab was stolen from Ben at Re-Cycle in the Van Ness Village. He has been understatedly providing bike repair and has kept many supplied with all kinds of parts to feed our bike obsessions. This, for me, is the hub of bike culture in Fresno, and i take this theft to heart.
i haven't seen any notice nor pics of this anywhere yet, but the description is a large, black 3-wheeler with a surrey top. This machine is way old-school, and would certainly stand out in traffic. It looks like it's made of wrought iron, and has that funky third-world element. Seems it would be very hard to hide and a bear to dismantle, so there's a good chance for recovery if enough hear about it.
rickshaw theft
wow, i read another rickshaw theft (not same) posted on craigslist-fresno today. hmmm
detective
hmm... it must have been planed if the lock or cable was cut. Who ever got it must have connections to touristy places where a bike like that would do well.
Bike Lock
That bike lock was used on the bike, AntiMusick, and it was cut to facilitate the pedicab's theft. Ben is a bike shop owner; he Lives bikes. He is fully capable of using common sense in theft prevention, especially when it comes to bikes.
thank you for the photo
I've never seen this bike, I thought it was one of the yellow ones from downtown. If I see that guy in the photo I'll tell him to use that bike lock that's on the handle bars, to prevent the theft next time.
the good, the bad, and the pedicab..
...kurtz, I initially saw the heading of the post, and clicked it open thinking.... 'oh no, somebody stole kurtz...'
-was glad that such was not the case...
Re: photo.
To the best of my knowledge, this is one of the last outings of the pedicab on last Friday night.
Very few people saw it pedalling around (by a well smiling Ben,) -as the shindig, (which was freakin' amazing,) for the Smog City Roller Grrls had not really gotten going yet.
---any suspicious characters (well, aside from all of us,) should be suspected, because, well, they're suspicious... (no seriously, maybe somebody saw something?, someone snooping around the ol orange alley-o-bicycles and 'massage.'
I'm still thinking:
Burning Man.
---Seriously, where on earth are you going to ride this thing in Fresno -and not be noticed??? It's a beast.
-but it would be perfect for Burning Man...
(and it started just around the time that the thing got taken.)
(now, do we know anyone AT burning man that we can call,
--to see if they see it,
(considering that they're probably walking around naked and stoned with a lobster head on, it may take them time to answer the phone,,,
-but then again, there are only so many places where a cel can be, erm, carried in such a state...(hope to god they don't accidently take a picture fiddling around trying to open the durn thing...)
-Maybe somebody swiped it as a prank and took it there...
(Rides would be be a goldmine in the barter system...)
-oh yeah....
the good...
Notice, when smiling fellow rides around in a pedi-cab, he winds up with not one, -but two lovely ladies as passengers...
(...clever monkey, that Ben... heard you've tried the same methods...)
Here's a Photo
I have not seen Any other vehicles exactly like this one on the streets of Fresno so far. It is easy to identify.
If you see this cab (or a hastily spray-painted clone of this cab), please smash its driver's face with a brick and call Ben's shop, Re-Cycle ASAP at 559-268-2863 (leave a voicemail if you don't reach him).
not cool
considering the unfailingly kind heartedness of Ben, as well as the excellence in service that he gives to both 'high dollar,' and 'no dollar,' patrons, I would hope that the thief had no idea who they were ripping off.
taking the surrey, wrong.
taking advantage of Ben, -inexcusable.
-Eric
Thanks for spreading the
Thanks for spreading the word, I will show up I'm sure of it. Anyone that was hainging at Club Fred on friday the 25th might have seen me giving people rides up and down Van Ness in it.
