A Fresno Dork challenge
For the nationally televised game against Oregon, Pat Hill's Fu Manchu challenged Fresno State fans:
"It's going to be a big-time game, big-time football right here in our stadium. Oregon's [Autzen Stadium] is considered in the Pac-10 the most hostile environment. Hopefully that's a challenge to fans to show that [Bulldog Stadium] is just as hostile. We're going to need our crowd in this game and at their seats."
I definitely agree with coach on that. But Dorktown would like to issue a challenge to the Fresno fans as well: Be an ambassador of Fresno when encountering Oregon Duck fans or any fans that come to town - don't be an asshole. Yes, it's cool to give opposing fans some crap during the game, but when the game is done, shake their hand and say, "Good game, thanks for coming down to Fresnut."
I did this after the Nevada game when I ran across a bunch of Nevada fans waiting to get on their bus for the ride home to Reno. All of them we're very cool, even though they just lost. Some even were already rooting Fresno State on to beat Oregon.
I love that about being in the WAC, everybody roots for one another when a fellow WAC team is playing outside the conference.
Did the Nevada fans think I was a dork for shaking their hand? Maybe some of them, but it's better for out-of-towners saying to themselves "Remember those dorks in Fresno?" instead of "Remember those assholes in Fresno?"
