Local Ads gone bad: wine = good, ad = bad
Submitted by suzi on Wed, 09/27/2006 - 18:44.

What can I say? This is just strange. I don't get it.
Pulled from the Reel Pride catalog.
Regardless of what you think of this ad you should totally buy their wine.
Local goodness.

nicely done
-don't give up on your dream of that mural.
Freda painted,
Diego painted,
-they both had something to say, and were heard.
When it's all said and done, her work will be seen as the greater and brighter burning star, (though they will forever be shown against the other.)
That's okay.
It's setting, ---not overshadow, censor, or suppression.
One does not cancel out the other,
(-don't fall to the hype, female artists have always been better than male, and have far greater insight, (there are fewer, yes, but they have always far excelled their male peers.)
---and all male artists always have a female muse, (don't believe otherwise.)
You have more strength than you know, focus it and acccomplish many things.
I saw what was written on your site, ('to whom it may concern,)
This is not just the truth, it's an olive branch.
Take it for what it's worth, and be at peace.
We have other things to do, and the care of others to provide.
In the end, the Prince of Peace gets His way, (Selah.)
Feliz coraCHONIES
I like the water bottle to the left! Odd props for that shoot.
But, but, butt...
This ads biggest problem is its in-your-face/college dorm room/Girls Gone Wild look. People who drink wine have usually matured beyond this level of marketing.
I will not buy the wine because I think it is substandard. However, I will stare at this rear-end for a while longer.
not Fresburg Designer's finest hour...
Though I don't know too many gay men who would be offended by a woman's padunkus clad in underwear, -I can't say that they've commented on it as an aphrodesiac, either.
Gay women? Well, some of them I've been around can be that aggressive and outspoken about the female caboose, but usually they have a little more class.
Maybe targeting swingers???
(Fresno has lots of swingers, right? doesn't it? -I mean, not as many as Clovis, ...but still...)
-nothing wrong with that, I mean, some of the billboards on I-80 headed across the country, (particularly the ones in Ohio:
'...all you swingers come to Fresno, and drink wine in yer gotchies...' -the butt was clad in plaid, (which was a bit off color,) but still, quite the campaign... I for one was impressed.)
Maybe the whole thing was a a half baked take off on 'Make me Whine.' vs Wine.
Honestly havn't a clue.
It's just very very low end,(no pun intended,)
I mean, it doesn't even play as a risque joke, it's more like a 'one and a third entendre,' rather than a double, and the screen printing is not centered on the skivvies....
Totally isn't elegant, really not erotic, and is actually kind of dowdy,
(no disrespect intended to the woman who happens to own said bum, I'm sure she's a lovely person, has great personality, tremendous SAT scores, pearly whites - minty fresh breath, and is an active member in good standing of the civic group of her choice, recycles, -and probably even is an usher at her (selected,) house of worship, ---and has strong arches ta boot...)
-Probably even ropes and rides.
(Which may have been a more provocative image,
(in fact, I think I remember a billboard or two in wyoming of that theme, with a ladie's derrier leather, --but it was for a local Reptile House...
Sure worked for me, Now everytime I see that Geico Gecco, I feel real funny, like when we used to climb ropes in gym class...
not sure how that would play here in Fresno.)
It just makes me want to ask the company (not 'bout wine,) but 'dude, what were you thinking???'
10:55p edit:
Upon reviewing the evidence a bit further I have also come to the following conclusion:
-Her drawers appear to be a size or two too tight, and the poor thing must have been mighty uncomfortable during the shoot... (but that's just this man's opinion...)
i concur
as a hetero male, i thought this was an odd add to be placed in a reel pride catalog. but, if i think beyond myself, perhaps i'm not the targeted demographic. is this an appealing ad to the ladies reading said catalog?
regardless of who it's aimed at, i still do think this is an odd add. it seems like it's trying to be provacative and risque, but ends up just being strange. i've enjoyed their wine, but this ad wouldn't inspire me to purchase more.
ad = bad or talent = none
Get it suzie
You are right, the ad is bad. Typical of a hack that does not understand the target audience. Men do not buy wine (broad sweeping generalization). Using sex to sell wine has proven to be ineffective.
But guys do love beer (and butts)
