the whole Tower Records eulogy got me thinking about what a trip to Tower used to be and what's now. Where's a reliable spot these days that you can pretty much run into good conversation, vibe and sure-thing product.
been thinking mine are:
Re-Cycle
Revue
AuLac/Indigo
Grandma's Organic
Spinners
KoffeeHeads
et vous?

Chicken Pie at night?
Who was mentioning this? Chicken Pie at night would be a marvelous
hang-out.
speaking of los pepes, i was there a couple weeks ago and my sister said she saw you about 5 minutes before i walked in. small world, eh?
3 in Fresno & 3 in Kingsburg
conversation, good vibe and sure thing product eh?
I would say:
*Piemonte's* (yeah, no real 'hang-out' but as you're in line you're in a pretty cool atmosphere and the folks behind the counter always make you feel very at home)
then walk across the street to:
*Spinners Records* here it's not just the folks behind the counter, but the customers can make for some friendly conversation as you cruise through the racks for treasure.
*Backline Guitar & Amp Repair* (about three or four doors north of CLub Fred)---recaptures some of the hang-out fun of Archer's Music when it was the Music Store of the Tower. The folks do TOP NOTCH work that's very reasonably priced, and you might be tempted into an occassional impulse-buy from the used and cool gadgets, instruments and amps that can be found there on occassion.
and since I earn my daily bread and do my daily sleep in the outlying town of Kingsburg, here's some cool and friendly hangs in the big K-Town:
*Tom's Donuts* --Tom's hard-working friendly family wraps our mornings in a fog of sugary goodness.
*Tres Consuelos*(sp?) The Three Pots----good good food(mexican/chinese/american) and not so pricey.
*Los Pepes*--You're sure to see someone you know as you relax on a Friday eve with some yummy Mexican dinner thingies.
Its good to know where the good places to hang out are in Fresno. Coming from a college town, I have high expectations for my mint mocha fix (because we've got a plethora of non-Starbucks options). I like my mint mocha straight up with a kick. I like good indie music (although if its Journey hour, I won't complain) and free wireless. I like a good view, and a nice patio for the morning times. Is that too much to ask? I think Koffeeheads is promising. Haven't gotten a chance to actually spend some time there, just in and out.
A little FYI, if anyone is ever in SLO you should try my love, Uptown Espresso , the "Home of the Velvet Foam". Its on Higuera Street just west of Santa Rosa, across the street from the new county building. Amazing coffee, good music, free wireless, great view especially for people watching.
Koffeeheads
Downtown locale of course! Just a five min. walk from home. I like Kern St too. A little bit of a further walk.
Kern Street Coffee for sure!
so far, so good...
Not from FresBurg, so I can't ride the 'way-back machine.'
(May disqualify me, not sure, oh well,)
Great places I've been that I always smile when I realize that these were where I'm headed?
(Second the Motion) ReCycle (6 bikes in my living room... not a problem, I can stop any time I want.)
Yoshi Now! (non-tower)two of the greatest ladies in junque biz, and future home of 'Christmas Shopping for the folks back East.'
Warehouse (non-fresburg) (if ye dig the boxes, ye shall find much goodness and priceless, (not pricey,) tunage.)
-any gig I've been around at Full Snorkel Brewery (though they have to get kibble, or let somebody sell grub on the curb...)
Million Elephant (new to me, food be good, closest to a St. Marks cafe I've found in town, it's worth the ride from First and Shaw, (even on a single speed.)
And, I know they moved far far away to a land where the lexus and mercedes play, but the folks up at Tri-Sport (ok, ok, I know, NOT TOWER,) will always be on my 'stranded on a Desert Island: top 10' list.
Have no idea where he is on the food chain, but Aaron just runs a great show, and the bikes are soooooooooo droolworthy...
