Although the first patents for revolving doors were issued in 1883 and 1885, the earliest known building to use a revolving door was in Herculaneum, near Mount Vesuvius in Italy, constructed in the third century BCE.

Danzig

I saw an article in the Fresno Bee by Mike Osgueda on Friday, stating that the band Danzig was coming to Fresno's Rainbow Ballroom in November, on the 28th, as part of their "Blacker than Black Tour". WOW!
These guys are a great band, and unbelievably, I just got turned on to them recently. I've been a "metal-head" for all of my life (30+ years)and for some strange reason these guys just went over, or under my radar. I caught their original hit "Mother" on KRZR one day, and I liked it immediately. Picked up their first CD titled "Danzig" where the song resides, and loved the entire album, a rarity. Glenn Danzig's vocals are, er, unusual to say the least (a cross between Jim Morrison and Elvis Presley is as best I can describe it- (I hear that he is known as the "Evil Elvis", since most songs are pretty dark). So, I then picked up their second CD, also excellent, IMHO. Looking forward to a great show. Has anyone ever been to a show at the Rainbow Ballroom? Curious about the place, I've never seen or been in it. I picked up tickets at The Wherehouse in Clovis, which is also where I picked up the Danzig CDs. What a great place! Very convenient, and the folks are all very helpful.
Can't wait to see Danzig - Live!!

I also just picked up an Evanescence DVD / CD combo, for only $15 - which is GREAT!~ The DVD has 4 videos, as well as an entire live concert in Paris.
Has Evanescence played in Fresno yet? (I'm thinking they were at Save Mart Center recently, but I could be wrong...)

Glen Danzig is 51.

Let's remeber...

Good point. As I said, I'm pretty impressed with him and his band. I'm guessing the crowds used to be a lot rougher than they are now, but who knows? I think he can probably handle himself pretty well...but I'm more interested in his singing than his fighting!
It's even more amazing that he's near 50! He rocks!

Let's remeber...

That Glenn Danzig is close to, if not 50 years old. So how impressive is that? That's like somebody knocking out my dad.

Evanescence was supposed to

Thanks for the info. Well, I guess all we can do is wait now....it looks like they are enjoying a bit of success these days........
Amy Lee is hot, and what a voice! My ideal "Rock n Roll" chick...

Cool, looking forward to checking the place out. Sounds like there have been some great shows there, and hopefullt this Danzig show will be a good one too!
Glenn Danzig got knocked out? Holy Cow! Yeah, he looks pretty tough alright.....but your right - the bigger they are....
I think he's a pretty talented guy, and his vocal style is definitely unique. Looking forward to the show.

Danzig

1994 huh? Amazing that these guys have been around for so long! Even more amazing is that I hadn't heard of them until now. I couldn't believe my eyes when I picked up their original CD with "Mother" on it, and saw the release date was 1988! The sound and production quality is noticeably poor however, oweing to the fact of big changes in technology from then until now.
Great band, looking forward to the show. I'll take your advice on the "pit" - not sure if I'm up for that stuff these days! The view should be good from the sidelines though...thanks.

Evanescence was supposed to perform here in Sept. 2003, but the show got canceled a few weeks before the date, that was around the time it looked like they were gonna break up. They haven't been 'round these parts since...

the rainbow ballroom is a pretty nice venue. big open dance floor (get that circle pit going!). and, they've got a bar for those of you of age. tons of acts have played there. i've personally seen garbage & morrissey there, as well as locals like 40 watt hype (i think they might have still been wack mc's @ the time).

as i think of the venue right now, it kinda reminds me of a bigger version of the house of blues in hollywood. of course, i'm probably thinking of it with waaaay rosey lenses.

enjoy the show. and if you're up for it, look for video of glen danzig getting knocked out. it's available on the internet. i guess it doesn't matter how buff & tough you may be, a solid punch on the button will drop you.

I remember Danzig concert in Fresno on August 1994, it was performed at Wilson theater (now Cornerstone churce). I had a great time the whole time being at front where beating each other and body-surfing happens. Im sure you ll enjoy it.
