Director Sasha Khokha to discuss Calcutta Calling

"Move over country boys, here come the country girls. There is nothing pretentious or heavy-handed about this film. Not a single false note. That's a tribute to the young filmmaker's skill and honesty as well as a reflection of her own sensitivity to the nuances of dual identities and mixed backgrounds."

— Steve Talbot, Series Editor, PBS Frontline/World

The Fresno City College Film Program, with support from Friends of the Arts, presents a free screening of Calcutta Calling on October 28, in MS-132 (Music Recital Hall), at 7:30 p.m. This award-winning short documentary (26 min.) follows the journey of three Indian girls from their adoptive homes in rural Minnesota to their country of birth for the first time. The film was featured in PBS's Frontline/World's Rough Cut series and awarded first place for New Media by the South Asian Journalists Association.

The film's director, Sasha Khokha, will discuss the film after the screening. Ms. Khokha covers the Central Valley for KQED's The California Report. Her radio stories also air on National Public Radio and Public Radio International.
